22.10.2010 17:30 to 23:30
*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
City/Town: Zürich
Event Type: Drinks/Bar
Meeting Point: Devi's Bar, opposite Wiedikon station

Powered by the Zürich Hash House Harriers ('a drinking club with a running problem'), this treasure hunt will have some familiar features and some new.

We will start at Devi's Bar between 17:30 and 19:00 and finish there quite a lot later, with Glühwein and other good things to welcome us back.

Your team wins by earning the most treasure hunt cash (Beeros). You can earn Beeros in many ways:
- Follow the flour trail without using the map provided.
- Answer questions about things you see on the trail.
- Answer questions in quiz bars.
- Perform a challenge in the challenge bar. In the past challenges have included singing, dancing, poetry, charades and much else.
- Stay a while in the Barmuda Triangle.
- Choose one of the World Cup nations (teams are identified by nation). Dress and act as that nation. Reservations in advance or first come first served.
- Drinks in quiz bars get some Beeros. Drinks in 'bonus bars' get extra Beeros.
- Finish early.
- Organisers will pay you if you buy them drinks or please them in other ways.
- Selling goods, knowledge or services to other teams.
Organisers in the bars mark answers, judge performances and pay Beeros on the spot.
This event is similar to other treasure hunts we've organised. Here are some photos from a treasure hunt in Seefeld with a Euro teams theme and here are the photos from the January 2010 event.

Sabrina has been good with some rather noisy dos and big crowds of foreigners, and has a sympathetic ear it seems. If you like Devi's keep in touch on Facebook and keep her in mind for events, like EF Friday drinks (has been done before). They do live music sometimes with big, young crowds.
Aye, i've been there a fair few times for normal drinks, as well as see someone I know who's in a band that plays there reasonably regularly. For large or long events space can be an issue, but its still one of my favourite bars in the area, and great for a quiet drink with a couple of friends.

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

Thanks to all the organisers - another very fun and somewhat random night!

Loved Barmuda - some good pole dancing fun was had in there, though was a little freaked out by the guy with the moustache, with his shirt open doing press ups! and a big thanks to google pictures for the picture round

Also thanks to my team mate, Raul (on guitar), the guy from Venuezla (on the bongos) and the Irish guy (singing) for an impromtu jamming session in Rossi bar - Brilliant!

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

was great fun! thanks for organising, pat.

team greece was probably the worst team of the night

i think we managed only 4 bars and didn't submit any answers - although we spent a lot of time trying to cheat and copy everybody else's answers

impromptu bongo jam session was great fun. was the pole dancing actually part of a challenge???

but the question remains: why on earth did someone bring blue spray-on hair dye???

No idea, but some female miscreant emptied about a third of it onto my hair.

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

We really enjoyed it too. Sadly German efficiency seemed lacking as we had to wait 30 mins for one of our crew and so when we got round to the Challenge Bar the organisers had just left. Our fault. But had we followed the Pink route and not Blue, the Challenge Bar would've been 2nd and not a problem getting there on time.
As RD said. the 1st Sherif Bar was more like 1km away from the last flour circle not 50 meters as said in the notes. We wasted another 30 mins finding it like Moses in the desert.

But I did like the cryptic bar names and Hash flour marked trail. Good fun. And luckily for non hashers the dead ends were a red herring as there weren't any.....this time.

Devis was a bit too cramped and dimly lit for reading the instructions I'd say. In the summer when you can go outside, not a problem. However being dimly lit did allow for a few shenanigans to take place to make the eyes pop out of my head!!
It closed at 2 so we all piled into McGees or Desperados.
My friiend who led the Chile team couldn't figure out how they won as they missed two bars!!! Must've been charm, passion, entertainment and good old fashioned bribery! :-)
But thanks to the organisers. And thanks to Pat & assistant for marking so many sheets at the end and sorry for chucking our team's beeros on the table in frustration. (I owe you a beer). We didn't even submit our unopened map.
Lesson is, it's just fun and even if you don't do all the bars you can still do well which makes it much more open.
I did experience the ugly face of Pennineism though when a Yorkshire lass deducted bonus beeros from our team just cos I'm from wrong t'side of t' Pennines even though we got all our Yorkshire questions correct.

Thanks to all.

Also want to kick in my thanks to the organizers. Especially summerrain and the crew at the Barmuda triangle and to the folks at the Broadway bar-- great atmosphere at both places!

[Never had that much fun with communicable diseases... ]

and agree on Devi's being a bit dark to read instructions, though we had so much trouble getting started, i can't fairly blame the lighting... but we figured it out eventually.

How could we best avoid the situation where treasure hunt lovers miss an event? Make a sticky? Set up a Facebook page? I'd like to do something like this anyway because it makes marketing easier. Any ideas?

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

Got some bars feedback today.

1. Devi's. 'can we do an event every month'?

2. Vollmond (rough translation) 'super stuff (= 'super Sache') and great atmosphere'. 'hope there will be a next time'.

Panteras were sad to see our Belles and players leave. At least they can restock their spirits now.

I then had an idea. How about a 'games night' at 1 bar with, say, 2 normal quiz rounds, a picture round, a challenge round, a creativity round and a revenge round (don't ask)? Drinking would be involved somehow. Like a scaled down treasure hunt or a pub quiz on steroids. That should not be too hard to organise and could even be monthly. Devi's would obviously be up for it (we'd need to look at lighting). Would we get 50 people?

Just to add that even though I've disabled comments and tagging on the photos to prevent identification of individuals, there may well be some of you that are uncomfortable with your image being there.

If that is the case then send me a PM with the filename of the photo and I'll remove it.

Select the photo you want and click on it. Then click on it again to magnify it. Right click on the photo and click on "original size". This will take you to another page where you're able to download it.

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

Over easter I'll be clearing out my Flickr account, and I'm afraid that'll mean the photos from the 3 Treasure Hunts that I've photographed, and those from Sygirl101, will disappear from view.

So for the next week you can find the photos from the TH June 2009 (here), Jan 2010 (here), and October 2010 (here).

I've made all the photos downloadable, I think, and I've licensed them as creative commons so you can use them as you see fit. Look in my post above this one for download instructions. Again if there are any photos of you there that you really really want removed then drop me a PM, however they'll all be gone in a week anyway.

I'm afraid that I won't be able to provide anybody with full res versions as I simply do not have the time to deal with individual requests at the moment. Sorry about that.

Links have been removed as the photos are no longer available
