22.10.2010 17:30 to 23:30
*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
City/Town: Zürich
Event Type: Drinks/Bar
Meeting Point: Devi's Bar, opposite Wiedikon station

Powered by the Zürich Hash House Harriers ('a drinking club with a running problem'), this treasure hunt will have some familiar features and some new.

We will start at Devi's Bar between 17:30 and 19:00 and finish there quite a lot later, with Glühwein and other good things to welcome us back.

Your team wins by earning the most treasure hunt cash (Beeros). You can earn Beeros in many ways:
- Follow the flour trail without using the map provided.
- Answer questions about things you see on the trail.
- Answer questions in quiz bars.
- Perform a challenge in the challenge bar. In the past challenges have included singing, dancing, poetry, charades and much else.
- Stay a while in the Barmuda Triangle.
- Choose one of the World Cup nations (teams are identified by nation). Dress and act as that nation. Reservations in advance or first come first served.
- Drinks in quiz bars get some Beeros. Drinks in 'bonus bars' get extra Beeros.
- Finish early.
- Organisers will pay you if you buy them drinks or please them in other ways.
- Selling goods, knowledge or services to other teams.
Organisers in the bars mark answers, judge performances and pay Beeros on the spot.
This event is similar to other treasure hunts we've organised. Here are some photos from a treasure hunt in Seefeld with a Euro teams theme and here are the photos from the January 2010 event.

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

This post will contain any Frequently Asked Questions or other useful information.

Some FAQs.
Q) Is drinking encouraged?
A) Oh, yes. You get Beeros for drinking.

Q) Do the bars mind so many drunks coming in and looking around?
A) Normally no, provided you don't bother the normal customers. Lots of innocent bystanders find the event a great idea. The bars are happy to have us - we've discussed this before the event.

Q) What if I don't have a team?
A) You'll find a team at the Singles Bar that we organise at the start. Best to arrive early to have a wider choice of team mates.

Q) What if I can't make it to the start before 7?
A) Follow the flour trail (in either direction) and you'll find us.

Q) Is there an entry fee? How do you make money?
A) There is no entry fee, kick back from bars or other commercial interest whatsoever. Devi's and the Zürich Hash will kindly sponsor some food and prizes.

Q) Do we need to dress for the occasion?
A) You'll get extra points for dressing up. You may also find make up, craft materials etc. are helpful.

Q) Is excellent command of English necessary to win?
A) No, we try to avoid anything that needs fluent English. For many clues you need to translate from German or another non-English language so it's helpful to have a multilingual team.

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

Organisers and bars are pretty much ready. This time we have a very large selection of challenges with lots of new ideas. We are matching challenges to countries this time, so you might do something appropriate for your World Cup country.
We are also working on an idea where the questions you get depend on which organiser you choose. Still needs a bit of work...

Free entry, organisation and entertainment. No expensive bars. Maybe some free food. Could end up cheaper than that romantic dinner you had in mind.

Now I've written it this way, it looks like we are the Club Med / Butlins of pub events.

Feel free to pass around (to the right kind of person), we are taking measures to cope with large numbers. Last time we had about 130 people on 1 route. Some places got very crowded. This time we will have 2 routes.

Yep will keep that in mind - most our my football buddies and yes they drink a lot - a lot have been hashing in asia with me but never back here as they are always too busy or have other things to do so it will be a good way to get them back to the hash. Have asked a few to come in this thursday if they can make it to the run.

Excellent, look forward to meeting them. If they like hashing they'll like the treasure hunt. There's a Saturday run this week too.

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

Just 3 weeks to go. I expect lots of people will join in the last 2 weeks and I know lots of people preparing who haven't signed up yet. Might be worth reserving your team early (having said that, I didn't expect Ghana and Chile to go early).
We have good pubs and good organisers, with a couple of surprises in store.
We have lots of different challenges this time and everyone will know what everyone else is doing, so they can stay on to watch or trade challenges. Some of the challenges are in character for the country.

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

I'm just curious as to whether the members of the North Korea Team are, through the course of the evening, going to gradually defect to other more successful and less oppressive teams.

I reckon there should be points in that

Is it just me or did that sound so wrong?

Folks, come on! Whats up with all the non-commital maybes? Its going to be a wicked, wicked night - especially in the bar I've volunteered to be in charge of with two other ladies. You can officially start bribing me for those Beeros now.

muaaahahaah

Re: Pub Treasure Hunt in Zürich

Just 2 weeks to go. There is normally a flurry of people signing up in the last 2 weeks, as the event shows up on the running calendar, so book your world cup teams...

This time all teams have their own special challenges. You'll love them (except Serbia, possibly).

Spain is yours. Olé! If for some reason you don't want it please let me know.

No England, US, Australia or NZ teams yet. I'm surprised. I heard rumours of Germany building a team.
