Re: (Unofficial) Thursday Night Drinks at the Viadukt Market

Samples have been given to the bar and they know the beer is good, I'm sure though that they don't realise how much of it us lot would drink if it was available. I for one would switch from the Appenzeller Dunkle Bier.

I have to admit, it was a hard move from the Porter to the Dunkle Bier.

Don't give me that 7% stuff again - I like it, but I know I will jump off the rails on that gear if I have too many.

Agreed bill... no more pre-bar drinks at Grumpys from now on, they're lethal.

It's amazing how many people who went out for a "quick drink" last night ended up there till near chuck-out time. I think in future i'll stick to the tried-and-tested plan of going home from work, having a good meal, and then getting there at around 1930-20:00. Much safer for the following days work.

You wimp. What's wrong with a Pork & Apple Pie washed down with a 7% Imperial Stout? Sets you up for the evening beautifully!

As I said before.... "I like it", but I know there is a world of "Jekyll & Hyde" inside each bottle at 7%.

Besides, even race car drivers don't start their car with Nitrous Oxide.... so opening the evening with a 7% Stout or 3 could well be the end of me (knowing the additional drinks that follow).

P.S. Richdog was right, those Pork & Apple pies are the BOMB!!!
I loved them with Grumpy's beers.

That Pork & Apple pie was the best pie i've had in 2 yeears. Tried the Steak & Guinness one there and wasn't too impressed, but the Pork & Apple made love to my mouth.

Lovely to see some fresh faces last night, along with the regulars.

It was good to start the evening with some real beer. Pity the otherwise excellent bar and restaurant serve so-so Swiss beer, when there's so much better stuff out there. If there's the will, it would be great if we could encourage the management to supply some tastier bevvies, such as the fabulous RappiGold or Black Bier. The brewery in Rapperswil won a European best black beer gold award last year and it's a shame this sort of product isn't widely available.

If you'd like to make the suggestion that they stock such beer, send them an email. Here's the contact info for the markthalle restaurant.

It's not much good haranguing the staff on the night, as they're too busy getting smiled at by Richdog serving to discuss the merits, etc.

Cheers. See you all next time!

BUT the bar has some quite good red wines, I tried two of them. And at acceptable prices (don't tell them ! ) . And I bought at a stand around, a nice bottle of Moretti Beer. Gr.. may have some words with the folks of the bar, but I fear that they are bound to one or two of the dominant beer-groups (Tuborg/Heineken) who own CH-brands like Calanda, Haldengut, Hürlimann, Feldschlösschen and a number of others. I however remember to have seen Appenzeller Bier, which is one of the few remaining independents, so that it should be possible to get some English beers into their assortments. Gr.. should however negotiate with his suppliers about a 40% traders rebate for him, with a 25% traders rebate granted to that bar.

Who's coming out tomorrow night? Anyone?

And grumpy, are you going to be there? I would really like you to meet my family, who I will bring by tomorrow if you will be there...

I'll be here all afternoon and evening and will be in need of a beer or 3. Anna's been off sick but she's back now so the bar is back to it's normal, jolly, naughty self.

If you're bringing your family, will the one who accused me of being "cute' be amongst them? I've never been called cute before. Another first, someone called me "dude" at the market this week. i am not a dude, I am an Englishman.

Oops. Just realised I won't be here in the evening as I have a private do. I'll be here until about 5 when my charming and good looking (and single) wing man will take over. Sorry.

Looks like I will be passing back through on my way home from Basel. See you all about 10.00 for a couple of naughty Dunkle Biers.
