Skiing on 04/12/10

Hi y'all

I've been searching the forum, but can't find any recent (i.e. last few days) posts on the subject. I'm taking some beginners out skiing tomorrow, and we're looking for something pretty gentle for them but close to Zrich. Best bet at the moment is Davos, since Parsenns and Jakobshorn are both mostly open, but that's on the outside edge of their travel limits. Any thoughts on where to go?

Flumserberg still doesn't seem to have a lot open, but if anyone's been there in the last few days (besides goretex, whom I've already PMed asking for an opinion ), please let me know if it looks ok for novices at the moment.

Engelberg might be an option, but the glacier area isn't really suited to novices...

Thanks!
Lance

Re: Skiing on 04/12/10

Lenzerheide opens for the first time tomorrow, they'll have most of the west side open (7 lifts, plus one on the east side) which is not bad for early season. Weather should be great and the fact that its opening for the first time tomorrow should mean reasonably good snow conditions.

For the third or fourth time this week - for absolute beginners you can't beat Klostermatte. ( Engelberg ).

26 CHF for button lift, t-bar and conveyor belt.
15 CHF for just the conveyor belt.

It's where I learned to ski.

Re: Skiing on 04/12/10

I've never, ever been skiing before. Neither has my boyfriend. We plan to go to Klostermatte on Saturday 29th Jan and maybe again on 30th from Basel. As we don't have any ski gear and are not sure if we'll ever go skiing again, we'll be hiring everything once we arrive.

It doesn't seem possible to goin a group for instruction, as beginners classes all last a week and start on Mondays, so we'll sort out some private lessons, in English.

Anyone fancy joining us? It's not 100% definite yet, but pretty close.

It's so warm and sunny in Basel right now I hope they have some snow left in Engelberg.

Definitely (weather permitting - i.e. not if it's chucking it down with rain) going to Klostermatte/Engelberg from Basel on Sat 29th.

Anyone want to join and share the cost of a trainer for total beginners?

Re: Skiing on 04/12/10

I went, hired an instructor (from http://www.prime-engelberg.ch/) for the two of us, and had a fantastic time! Neither of us broke any limbs and apart from a few aches (and in my case sore ankle bones where the boots rubbed) we were fine.

Recommended! We'll be going again.
