Running Club in Zurich?

Hello people,

I am moving to Zurich in a few weeks and am looking for an athletics / running club to join. Anybody here a member of, or know any details of good (fairly serious) clubs in central Zurich / West side of the See?

Cheers.

Re: Running Club in Zurich?

mrkprc,

I, too, am looking for a running club and am moving in a couple of weeks. I know that there is a frequent but low key hash run on tuesdays(http://bitch.harrier.ch/ ) that my wife ran with on her last visit. According to her they are very laid back, but a great group to run with. There is another group http://www.zh3.ch/ to look at as well.

As I said, I'm not there yet, but we are moving in 3 weeks. (We will also be on the west side of the lake.) My wife and I both are training for a marathon in the fall. I am not sure what you mean by serious. If you are talking distance, then I/we are keen to do serious distance on the weekends with shorter runs during the week. If you are talking shorter / fast paced runs, then surely there are others who would be more interested.

We are part of a pretty big running community at home, and are eager to continue our social aspect of the sport. I was hoping to generate some buzz for a running group on this forum after I arrived, but your post prompted me to respond earlier than planned.

So, while your original question still stands (Running Club in Zurich?) If we don't find one, is there anyone interested in getting together for a run?

Re: Running Club in Zurich?

I would be interested in getting together for a run, and my husband might on the weekends (he's doing the JungFrau marathon in a few weeks). We live on the west side of the lake too, and also tend to do more long distance rather than more fast paced. And, we're also from Atlanta - So we just might know some of the same people!

I think it would be great to set up one night each week for a group run, meeting same time / same place each week and anyone who can make it shows up (we had a lot of this in Atlanta for cycling, and it's a great way to meet people plus get a good workout). I need to get to know the local running paths a little more and then would be glad to help put something like this together.

Re: Running Club in Zurich?

Hillseeker and others...

Now we're here and getting settled. The fall marathon plans went by the wayside because of the move. I/we would like to start training for the Zurich marathon in the spring. We will probably run long early Saturday mornings with the first runs on the west / silver coast. We'll start the first few weeks with some shorter runs to (re)build the stamina, and begin to move to higher mileage later on.

Let me know if anyone is interested in joining.

Re: Running Club in Zurich?

Sounds like a great idea! I would like to join you sometime. In general we are cyclists more than runners, so usually if it's warm outside we'll be out on the bikes, but the colder weather is approaching ever so quickly...

I'd also like to start a regular weeknight run, but this will be something to consider for next summer when there's more daylight in the evenings again.

Thanks for putting this together!

I used to be a member of free radicals freeradicals.ch before I moved to Bern back in the days when I ran a half-marathon each week.

They're quite active sportly and socially.

I would be interested. It's been 3 years since my last marathon, but would love to get back in shape for the springtime and perhaps run the Zurich marathon. Also, I'll need something to keep up fitness during the winter football pause. It's so much easier when you have someone to run with (so I hope can keep up with you guys).

Re: Running Club in Zurich?

I too would like to join. I ran a couple half-marathons in the last 3 years, so this might be the time to train for the full thing. Weeknights I do short runs but I do like early morning long runs on the weekends.

Re: Running Club in Zurich?

It is time to get started if we're going to run a marathon in the spring. We'll have our first run this Saturday October 20 at 8:00 in the morning from the Horgen train station. We'll start with a 5 km (3 miles). This is only the first run of many. This one may sound like a short run, but we will build to a 16 km/10 mile normal run and add in longer distances as we approach the race. We will be using a run/walk method that will help you recover faster and allow you to have a life after a long run. Please send me a private message if you plan to join, so I can get a count of how many we will have.

Re: Running Club in Zurich?

We had a good turnout for our first long run last weekend. As of today Oct. 22 we are planning on meeting at the Horgen Train Station every Saturday morning at 8:00 am for the next 6 weeks or so. After that the venue and time may change because our distances will increase and we'll need some variety. Please send me a private message if plan to join, or just want to get on our mailing list.

Re: Running Club in Zurich?

Anyone fancy meeting the other side of the lake? Pfannenstil, Griefensee or along the Toss near Winterthur? Or even in Zurich. Horgen is a tad far for me.

Re: Running Club in Zurich? - Silver Coast Runners going strong

As a reminder post out here for our running group... We are now about 12-15 runners strong. We meet at the Horgen Bahnhof at 8:00 am every Saturday. The group will reach its base distance of 16 km (10 miles) this weekend. We will continue to increase the distance, but we're running out-and-back, so you can turn around at any time.

This is a low key group of men and women training for their first marathon in Zurich in April, but veterans are welcomed, too. The conversations are mostly in English on the runs. Please join us.
