| | Golf in and around Geneva
Hi there,
We'll shortly be moving to Geneva and I'm curious as to which golf courses you've played in the area and which you preferred? I'm used to playing on a good-condition municipal course in St Albans in the UK with green fees on the weekend pinned at £17. I've done some looking on the web and have seen that Swiss courses in general seem to cost substantially more than that (although to be fair, that course at home is far cheaper than most London courses!).
So, to the Geneva-based golfers, have you found any reasonably priced courses in Romandie that you've enjoyed playing?
Thanks in advance,
G

Hi
Do you know you need a licence to play golf in Switerland? If you already have an official handicap, be sure to bring proof, its the only way to avoid having to take the exams!!!!!
The alternative is to play in France they don't worry too much and its also cheaper.
Good Luck

I did a search for golf on the forum and did find references to some quite strict handicap requirements, but thought perhaps that was just at a particularly posh club. If it applies to every club throughout the country, having never officially had my handicap assessed could be a small problem for me!
In line with that, can you recommend any French courses across the border then please?
Thanks,
G

You can go just across the border to Divonne-les-Bains... There's a very good golf course there, indeed. There are no requirements to play there and I don't think it is all that expensive. It's on the Lausanne motorway and is all of 15-20 minutes from Geneva.

Geneva golf club is fantastic but a bit of a closed shop and no doubt damm expensive, as is Domaine Imperial at Nyon.
Try Esery, http://www.swissgolfnetwork.ch/userc...?CLUBID=410015
in France, 10 mins from Annemasse, nice course. No idea what the charges are.
or Bossey http://www.golfbossey.com/ Dont know it but heard good things
If you want cheap, may be best looking in France

You could always try http://www.golfsignaldebougy.ch/ run by Migros.
Haven't swung a club in 12 years and not played here, but maybe a less expensive option.

To EF golfers, can we organize a friendly game sometime in summer?

Hi
I would appreciate any information as well. The one in Geneva,Cologny is great but private and closed. Two members must write for you and have not sponsored others during the year, four others must know you, and there is a two year waiting list! So other info on other courses close to Geneva would be great.

Divonne is an excellent course and they don't need to see a handicap certificate and are very friendly in the pro shop (domaine-de-divonne.com). It is quite expensive, €80 for a round as a visitor on the weekend, €54 in the week. Restaurant is better value and quite good (and popular), but service can be poor.

THe best and chepest golf course around Geneva is Signal de Bougy ( http://www.golfsignaldebougy.ch/), one of the 6 Migros course.
A pitch and putt in Collex-Bossy ( http://www.golf-vieille-batie.ch/) is also an excellent practice spot.
or go to neighboring France (St. jean de Gonville, Les Serves or Golf de la Manchette)

Wow, now why would you say that and not provide those eight courses? That's just rude
I went to Vieille Batie a couple of times and it's ok, I mean I wouldn't pay more than 10GBP for 9 holes like that in England for that but this is Switzerland (On the weekend it will cost 25CHF)

Yeah I'm kinda surprised that this topic died. Maybe Everyone got sick of Swiss courses requiring a handicap and being ridiculously expensive.
