OK the tennis court is reserved in the Tennis Halle Lenng for this saturday at 6pm, please be there on time maybe at 5:45 so we can get together get to know each other a little and then play for 1 hour.
I am sure if many of us come we could be able to find a suitable partner.
See you then, and please register at this thread so the other guys see there are several and get motivated http://www.englishforum.ch/social-ev...nis-lengg.html |

| | Re: Zurich: Tennis, Anyone? LAST MINUTE UPDATE THE COURT AT 6PM IS BUSY, THEY JUST CALLED ME AND ASKED ME TO CHANGE THE RESERVATION FOR 7PM I hope this is not a problem for danny, dand and jacek that had already confirmed it for 6pm.
So if everything is OK we'll see us there at 7 PM |

I just missed this event. I'm an absolute beginner, I've only played once in the last 10 years. (I still need to get my own racket) That being said, if anyone wants to join me for some regular practice (my level or higher), I 'd be very keen.

Four forum members joined for the tennis last saturday evening. Good fun and good facilities at Lengg, and it seemed relatively easy to have access at the courts late in the evenings.
I hope to see more of you on future sessions, and maybe we should try to split up on two courts; one for beginners, and one for intermediate players. In that way it is more fun for all. Obviously we should not forget the social aspect and play a little across the skill levels from time to time.
I understand that SalsaLover would take initiative for the next event, so please just watch this thread...
Regards

Thanks Chris.
I was organizing another meetup for next saturday, but ChrisNor and kmt will not be in town.
Let's see how the interest evolves during the week, otherwise we can have it on the 16th.
I hope many get interested and so we can have a pool of players in wich everyone could find a suitable partner for the season to come.

Hi Linette,
I am always up for a game of tennis, I'm also an intermediate player. I live in Adliswil. The public courts in Wollishofen are in a good condition, so we could play there.

speaking of Adliswil...I live here and was wandering around and happened to stumble upon a complex with a bunch of tennis courts (clay) and a beautiful pool. Apparantly it's some kind of Swiss Re Employee Recreation Center, but the Rules and Regs implied that visitors are allowed. It was easy to walk right in.
Does anyone know about this place? Does anyone want to hit over there?
Let me know.

ok...let me know...we can go over there one day, and if they kick us off, they kick us off. I don't think they will though, because it said in the rules that visitors play at their own risk, blah, blah, blah. And I didnt see much of a security presence, checking IDs.

I don't think it is wise to do this.
You may be able to get away with it, but if and when discovered, you give yourself and other foreigners (and tennis players) a bad name.
Sorry, I am becoming too swisslike..
HAT
PS: I am no beginner, play intermediate. Not willing to play with beginners, but prefer a hard hitter. I live near Schlieren and Urdorf tennis centers.

Why don't you two come to our tennis meetings on Saturday ?
It is way better than sneaking in illegally on some private club
And we have now a cool group of around 12 regulars, we have allways a good time ....
maybe this saturday the Euro08 frenzy could interfere our numbers but I will be up for it.
see the sig....

I moved from South Africa from high altitude in Johannesburg 1600m above sea level and here it's about 400m which might make a difference to the game and also the courts are somehow different to concrete surfaces where I used to play on... | | | | | I live in Wollishofen with my partner and there are public courts nearby on strassenbahn line 7...We are fairly good so would love to play some other mixed doubles or singles games .Will be away for a few weeks but then back so can play then.

I know from experience it is quite difficult to find a partner for regular hit.
I put together some info how one can advertise in sport centres to find the tennis partner for singles or for doubles: http://www.englishforum.ch/sports-fi...ss-tennis.html
Another option is to get an active licence and enter various tournaments. This will get you in practice at no time and perhaps help you to find regular sparring partners.
