To set up a junior football team in local area

Not sure where to post this but thought to do it here considering it's sports related

I'm working here in Switzerland, I'm 27 - I'm a regular at the gym. I'm there 7 days a week recently

Get a lot of people in the gym thinking I'm some sort of professional due to my physique and always getting kids come upto me asking me what I do for a fulltime job! ;p

Anyways - I've always been into coaching. I hold an FA Coaching Qualification badge, and used to do youth team coaching in UK - originally was going to go into it full time then once I graduated took another path

I'm thinking, just for fun - and with build up to summer and the interest I get here in the local community, that maybe I can do something.

I was thinking to set up a youth team - team say kids aged under 14. Like a football team - and to set it up from scratch...then see what we could do by pitching them against other teams or even creating a league of some sort

I'm sure I could get some good kids put together from my contacts here so far and could generate some interest

Any thoughts on this?

Re: To set up a junior football team in local area

I don't know about Biel, but most clubs around here would be delighted to find a qualified trainer to take over a group of their players. These days, many clubs find it difficult to find trainers who stick around for a while. Places of work don't want to let their workers get off on time regularly and youngsters (in their twenties) who give training decide to go off on a world tour or just to another place for their next year of University.

Starting up on your own, Swiss qualifications might be needed, and football pitches, although there seem to be so many all over the place, are in short supply when it comes to the hours when a group can actually train. (The kids, unfortunately, have to go to school as well as play football.) More power to your arm though. Good luck in this venture.

Re: To set up a junior football team in local area

Thanks for the reply Longbyte

I don't want to train senior kids who are already iin uni etc - too serious

Want to start off simple. Local kids in the area? Middle school to high school types? Maybe just even middle school types

Not sure if there are Sunday leagues here - but I've seen kids messing about playing on weekends just for fun, I'm sure I could put together a team then organize with other parents or localities or schools for them to put teams together then play each other from different districts

Training for example twice a week after work hours -

Saturday training -

Games on Sunday

-

I'd like to know, if something like that is going on.

Nothing professional, just for a way to have fun and some community work at the same time.

While in the US on my intern year there, in the local area of my aunt - there were some families that had set something up like this and it was quite popular and fun for both parties

Re: To set up a junior football team in local area

There is a Swiss Football Association (www.football.ch - in German, French or Italian) who handle heaps of aspects of football in Switzerland - even down to juniors.

Being in Biel/Bienne, I think you may be in the 'catchment' for the Bern Football Association (http://www.football.ch/fvbj/de/start.aspx - in German or French).

There's even FC Biel/Bienne, or smaller clubs in the neighbourhood (such as FC Jens). Look around, you'll find a club close by you can get into!

I didn't mean you giving the senior kids training, but the senior kids (in Uni etc.) giving training to the junior kids.
