I know this is last minute, but I am interested in going cross country skiing somewhere within 1 1/2 hours or so of Zurich this weekend. I'm considering Einsiedeln or somewhere else by train. I'm no expert but have some experience but haven't been in the past 3 years because we've been living in Sydney. I will have to rent since our container hasn't arrived yet. PM me if interested.

Snow in Einsiedeln doesn't look so super but the Loipen are open. Schwedentritt Loipe

I don't know about this year, but in the past, the guy who looks after the Loipe Bolzberg which goes towards Trachslau was always very industrious and used to collect snow from other places to improve the loipe when it had suffered a bit in places.

Rothenthurm is very open and I bet it is chilly in the morning but skating is 'good' so that is another possibility

Thanks for the reply. Ok then, Rothenthurm it is. I will be leaving Zurich in the mid morning so I hope to be there around noon. I"m thinking of doing the 7 km loop to start.
