| | Re: "Chase out the winter" road bike ride | Quote: | | | | | There is a scheduled Mountain bike ride on Saturday. It is Stage 2 of a three stage around lake Zurich tour. We did Zurich to Schindeleggi last Sunday. It will start at either Schindeleggi or Biberbrugg and go around the top of Obersee to either Schmerikon or Rapperswil depending on how we do on time. http://www.swissalpineadventure.com/calendar

I have two routes planned for Saturday. One of them is beginner friendly the other has a few km of trail that are probably not good for total beginners. If you have ridden on single track before then you should be ok. If not then the route for stage 3 (Sat 2nd April) would be more suitable for total beginners.
We will also be starting Tuesday evening rides in early May which for the most part will be suitable for everyone.
The routes will require a proper mountain bike with knobbly tyres and at least front suspension.

I have done a lot of road biking earlier and is now commuting 160-200 km per week.
However, MTB is new to me in every sense. I do have a decent MTB with full suspension though. I am widely known for never being short of gear and gadgets ;-)

Feel free to give it a go. Worst case scenario you may have to walk a part. There are a few possible bail out points if things don't go 100% according to plan.
But next weeks ride (April 2nd) is very suitable if you have never mountain biked before. |

You talking about this weather forecast?
15deg and sunny, if that's what you call a rainy forecast then I like your idea of rain. | This user would like to thank Eire for this useful post: | |

Hi,
Further to the earlier posts and having sent a begging letter to the weather gods I have posted a road bike ride for Sunday afternoon. Hope to see plenty of people there.

Very pleased to hear a weekday cycling mob is forming.
I work at the other end of Lake Zürich so 6.30pm would be earliest I could start. Although I have some X-Files strength lights so a little darkness on the final stretch would be acceptable until the daylight stretches itself right out.
Is there plans for a calendar or just a post each week?

I have members from the ZZR riders group coming from the UK 3/6/11 to 6/6/11 and looks like it will be around 18 bikes, some 2's up. They will be staying at Grande Cascade in the Voges. I am planning to meet up with them if anyone feels they may want to come along. There will be at least 9 ZZR1400's amongst them so plenty of cc's to create a little thunder in the glens
Will post a seperate thread nearer the time.

Hopefully the rain will come late, on the rain forecast it is announced dry until midday the heavy clouds will arrive then...

It would be fine with me to have some variety in the Thursday Nite Road Rides, with different routes...I like learning new routes. And starting closer to Zurich is ok with me as well. I wouldn't be able to organize them or lead them, but would be happy to show up when I can and try to follow!
I'll plan to put together a few rides periodically for an alternate day as well, in case people can't make Thursdays... Anyone would be welcome (with road bike). Probably more out from the city (e.g. above Horgen), since that's where I know the most routes - and it's just so beautiful!
I'm thinking of planning a Cyclist Social to kick off the season again in mid-April, so then we could all talk about this stuff more in person.
Excited to have the long daylight in the evenings back again!

I am especially looking forward to meeting Eire and Salsa (I heard rumours that they have kissed and made up and are living happily ever after can someone confirm ?)
