Rugby

Any Geneva area into rugby? Watching or playing! Keen to meet up for beer and sport when I arrive on the 9th June.

There are several Rugby clubs in the Geneva area. Check the Swiss Rugby Federation website.

Swiss rugby is of a very low standard, well below national 3 in England or even division 4 in Wales

That's good to know.

Now what are you going to do about it?

I wouldn't even put it that high. I would put it closer to some of the regional divisions. For example, my old club 1st XV in Oxon and Bucks division 1 (not sure if it exists any more) would soundly thrash any team in the Swiss A league.

Afraid not. Had to give up about 13 years ago due to hip and back problems . Played 3 enjoyable seasons with Bern though and still pop up to watch Fribourg now and again. I've even considered training again with Fribourg, if my body is up to it.

Re: Rugby

I think I am going to play for Nyon, they seem to have a good set up and we may even be in permanent accomodation there, we are in temporary accomodation while we find our place at the moment in Lausanne.
Looks like a pretty good club and good training facilities.

May be time for me to be fit playing rugby since school since I have been steadily training with beer and pies since and scraping through 80mins!

Nyon were a good club when I was playing, don't think we ever beat them

Would be good to watch the World Cup somewhere too, I have heard of Pickwicks pubs, are these any good? Will probably need to sort a sky box too though?

Re: Rugby

I prefer Charlie ONeils... smaller, more of a familiar crowd ( for me ) but Mr. Pickwick does have better and more TV's including a couple of wide screen

as for SkyBox.. these are the guys that did ours
http://www.haseurope.com/contact.aspx
give them a call or stop by Jim's Market ( do you have a car? ) on a saturday morning.. they are usually there to answer questions.

Colovray just outside the town near the swimming pool and lake, its a great set up, and is also home for UEFA,so amazing facilities, really welcome crowd and good mix of swiss and ex-pats too, job looks to be sorted as well, enjoying switzerland so far!
