So... long story short, I've had some sailing lessons a coupel years ago with someone from EF, but after some PM this year, I don't think the person in question is still teaching in Zurich anymore, unfortunately...

After some searches on EF and google, I emailed the guys at HOZ for sailing lessons. They've been very responsive with our questions, until I emailed them on May 9 to basically tell them the "yes, we'll take private lessons, can we start on xxx?" No response thereafter, strangely... I sent another email on May 12 and still no response. Weird, no? How can a sailing school be responsive all the way until a client is ready to book?!

Anyway, question now is, does anyone know or can anyone recommend a good school that does sailing lessons (preferrably motor boat lessons too) on Lake Zurich in English?

would really like to get back to sailing and hopefully take my test end of this season

Does it have to be the Lake of Zurich? How about the Walensee? Better wind than Zürisee for sailing . This company (http://www.segelschulewalensee.ch/) has courses on the Walensee. I know the guy who runs it takes groups abroad all the time so I assume he speaks English, but I don't know for sure. Nice guy, though. About the motor boat lessons, my OT took a few to prep for the motor boat test and I can ask if that guy speaks English, if you want.

No, it does not have to be Lake Zurich. I just simply didn't consider the other options. We live near Thalwil, so Walensee isn't that bad... Zurich Lake is still closer, but Walensee is beautiful

School vacation time..

I used to be a sailing instructor and I would consider Wallensee far better to learn how to sail on than Lake Zurich. The wind is far too inconsistant in Lake Zurich to be able to progress reliably. Wallensee tends to get more regular wind due to the mountains.

Has anyone tried sailing schools in other parts of Switzerland? The Lenzerheide website shows a sailing course on Heidsee.

The tourism page of the Grisons canton also shows sailing schools in St. Moritz and Arosa.

How better/different are they from the Lake Zurich or Walensee ones? I got a reply from the Walensee school that they do not have a kids/youth group per se.

I'm also interested either in group lessons for improvers or dinghy hire, I sold my Laser before I left the UK but would love to get out on to the water, I had noticed that Lake Zurich seems fairly still often, I've been wakeboarding.

Sorry for reviving the thread, but I live close to Zurich and I was wondering if there's any up to date information on places you can recommend, where they teach Dinghy Sailing on any of the lakes in Switzerland. Preferably speaking English.
