Skateboard partner

Hello I am looking for someone who can go with me on the skateboard because I am new in Zurich so if you know some spots, skateparks in Zurich don´t hesitate to contact me.

:p

Zurich is one big street park. Everything here is so smooth with curbs, rails, ledges and drops galore. However I gave up street skating when I was around 23 as I stopped bouncing off of concrete. Now I make a loud thud followed by me picking myself up and going home. Now I only skate my longboard, pools, bowls and parks that have good flow, none of which can be found here in the zurich region. The "best" indoor park will be in Winterthur, But I don't pay to skate. (train ticket + entry fee = not for me)

The good news is that next year they will open a real skate park in Shil City with bowls, street and whatnot. My only hope is they have a pro skater there when they pour the concrete to make sure all the transitions and angles are right on. ( I have skated parks which were unskatable because the city trusted a contractor to make perfect transitions) The city of Denver hired Tony Alva (Dogtown Z boy) just for this reason, which is why Denver has one of the best parks in the world. I hope Zurich does something similar.

Re: Skateboard partner

Yeah thank for reply , I have got just one questions what about cops in Zurich and skateboarding do they problems when you ride on skateboard over the city or it all okey ?

The worst think in the world is skateparks where you must pay, I lived in UK in the Manchester and there were all skateparks payedand damn with it.

But I readed that there is Zurich freestyle hall not far away from trains station and the next skatepark is near too, somewhere on Sihlquai under the bridge.

I've also given up the street-skating (although I still longboard) but there are little skateparks I've seen a couple of different places. One is next to the Limmat, on the same side as the Nierderdorf, right at the place where the Sihl and Limmat meet (down from the Landesmuseum). The other, and bigger one, that I have seen is in Kreis 4, in the park that is between Langstrasse and Feldstrasse, on Dienerstrasse. They have some small ramps and some rails -- there are always lots of people skating there.

There are quite a few spots with ramps and rails but they are mostly one trick wonders and you get bored quick. I would call these skate spots, not parks. There are a few indoor parks, the best being in winterthur, but I dont like skating on wood too much as they use super slick ply. If you skate indoors then get some really soft wheels. I have never been to the freestyle halle as I have heard it is always crowded. Plus its wood, plus you have to pay. I will wait for Shil to be built, for now I am satisfied with longboarding and downhill mountain biking.

As far as the police are concerned they will leave you alone for the most part unless you are waxing up a ledge in a busy area or if a resident makes a noise complaint. Like all places its best to find a spot in a industrial zone. I am still waiting for this park in Shil to be built before I buy a short board.

I haven't touched my skateboard for 6 years now but this thread and the nice weather makes me want to go out and try it again. I was never any good though but I guess I can still do some basic flips and grinds. If you don't mind to skate with an old guy who is out of breath after 10 minutes then I am definetely up for some rolling!

Never give up. I started when I was 3, every now and then I take a few years off as skating for me is very frustrating. I just cant get any better no matter how hard I try. I think its because of all the injuries. Anyways its time I get back on a board as well. (short board).
Here is what I would like the Shil park to look like. Denver of course. I could spend all day in those bowls........

So does anybody know when exactly next year the skatepark in SihlCity is finished? And Toadvine, are you sure there is still a skatepark at the Dienerstrasse? I went to have a look yesterday but couldn't find it, and no sign of any skateboarders, just the usual hookers.

Hey man, Denver looks like a dream for sk8 guys but I think so that USA is the best sk8 country in the world, because there it´s there something like an national sport just look on the street league

Check out this link http://noway.ch/noway/Skateparks.html

It has a lot of skate spots all over the Zurich region and beyond including some free spots, bowls etc.

If you want to do downhill riding one of my favorite spots is from the Zoo down to Zurich or best it at Seilbahn Rigiblick. Basically you take the vernicular up to the top and skate about 10 mins down back to the vernicular so you use it like a ski lift. You can get some good speed there so helmet and pads recommended.

Have any of you tried slalom? Its a lot of fun and easy to set up. Check this video

There are sometimes some casual meets, trainings and also competitions where you can have a go and meet a lot of cool people!

Wow! Had no idea there were that many bowls here. I NEED to go check them out. Many thanks for the link. :D
The St. Gallen bowls looks good. The Lausanne bowl looks even better. I've been to the Lugano bowl and thats pretty nice. Up until now I thought that was the only concrete bowl in CH.

Hey fellas!

Newbie on the way! One more skater, aged 27, moving to Zürich and looking for skating companions. Skills don't matter. I like street myself (curbs and mannies), limited skating abilities due to several injuries but always stoked to be on the board :)

Anyone in for some sessions? :)

Let me just hijack this thread to say that as the wife of an overgrown skateboarder, these contraptions have proved to be very useful in Switzerland.

During a recent move, my husband managed to successfully load numerous large items on his skateboard, which he then transported to our home. Seriously, some of the stuff seemed like it would be impossible but he did it with apparent ease.

Massiv Skatepark in Nafels is about 30-35 minute drive from Zurich down the A3 toward Chur, has an amazing bowl network as well as a nice street section. I would guess all the trannies are about 7-7.5 foot radius, which is perfect for flow as well as for lip tricks. it's outdoor and concrete, and also free :msncool:

it's the best bowl setup I've ridden this side of Wilson in Chicago or Louisville, though I ride BMX instead of skate :msnblush:

Last summer a microramp has been added to the little skatepark under the Kornhausbrücke in Zürich. Quite fun and very ease to skate.

And Xandeo, drop me a line when you've moved to Zürich if you like to meet up for some skateboarding!

Time to lift this thread up once again, now that summer is in the city and some new EF members might have moved to ZRH :)

So, any interested skateboard partners feel free to PM me for a session anywhere in the city... the club of foreign skaters is growing and now consisting of 4-5 guys from abroad. Beers, laughs and good times guaranteed. Skills/gender/age don't matter!

:welcome:

Hi all,

This is my first time posting to this thread (actually first post to EF), but yeah, I'd be interested in joining in with the club of foreign skaters. (Is that COFS?)

Is there a way you guys stay in touch? Facebook, Twitter, emails, text messages? or just PMs on EF? Let me know.

I'm solidly busy until October 2nd, but after that, I'm up for plenty of skating! I love skating in the autumn; much less rain than the summer anyway, and I don't get overheated so quickly.

A little about me: I'm 32, from Pennsylvania, skated for several years while in high school, a little while in college, but getting back into it in the last few months. I've lived in Switzerland for 7 years. I studied at the ETH and I'm an architect in Zürich.

Looking forward to hearing from any of you.

Nate

Photos of the construction site of the soon to be finished skatepark in Zürich (Allmend Brunau) here: http://ge.tt/8fRdkDO?c

This thing is going to be 8000 m2 - that's huge!

I took these photos this morning, and meet Thomas and Thomas from Glarus already skating the (mostly finshed) bowl.

Looks like it might not be totally finished until Spring. Can't wait!

They ruined a perfectly good rugby/football pitch for his which GC sports made good use of and have now been forced to look elsewhere to train. matches are still played on the last pitch but its now ruined because of overuse.

they could have put this on the other side of the road where the crappier one is

According to the schedule, it should be ready in early November. The official inauguration date is however set to end of January... but who cares about the date as long as it's skateable? :o

See you there y'all!

Anyone want to go check out the mini ramp in Kloten by the airport? I've heard it's a good one. (David at Mavericks said so anyway.)
http://www.sk8parks.ch/kloten---zh---8304.html

How about Skatepark Niederhasli? Also looks like it has a good mini and some good street obstacles. It's sort of out there, so it would be good for a Saturday trip, of if someone has a car.

I have two weeks off work now, so I'm itching to skate a bit more while I can. Let me know!

Hello all active and less-active EF skaters,

Tomorrow Tuesday October 8 some of the EF skaters are going to visit the Freestylehalle in Zurich in the evening. Entrance fee is 6 CHF for the session (if you're above 18 ;)).

The park has a pretty good street course and two different-sized miniramps. It's an indoor park and it's probably the cleanest skatepark in Europe, the place has been running since a few years but looks like it opened yesterday. It's located decently accessible by tram 17 from the city center so no car is needed. Closes at 22 pm.

We will aim to go there at 19-ish in the evening. Feel free to join us - skills and/or age don't matter! Time to dig out those old boards from back in the 80's or 90's!

PM me for any details.

Tried out the bowls last Saturday - they are huge, really well built and LOADS of fun even though I'm a street skater and don't feel too comfortable in bowls. Let me know if you wanna meet up some day for some sessions!

Thanks for the thread! I finally sorted out a board this weekend and followed the advise of the EF - some sweet parks to be had in Zurich.

Kloten has one of the nicest miniramps i have ever ridden - 5m wide x 1.1m high with perfect transition, smooth fast surface, and well placed coping. great ramp for the aging bones.

The new park near sihl city is ridiculous - unfortunately the rain started as i turned up, so will have to hit up the awesome bowl some other time

Freestylehalle is a great option for rainy days / snowy nights.

Anyhow, i would love to go for a skate with some fellow EFers next time its on - i only really skate mini ramps and bowls (and both not so well). PM me.

Cheers

Chris

Just stumbled upon this thread

That skate park by sihlcity/saalsporthalle is now fully open and has been for a while.

There is also a separate bike track but this is the pour cousin. It looks really badly designed and has some kind of concrete on the top
BMX tracks with concrete, is that a new sadomachistic form of the sport?!

Time to lift this up and see if someone joins for a nice late summer evening session :o

Bunch of older skaters are meeting up at 18:30-ish at the Sihlcity/Allmend/Brunau skatepark today. I'll be the one in glasses and grey shoes :msnnerd:

Join us! Skills, age and gender don't matter - just come and have some fun. PM for details if needed :D
