It's called soccer alright, or Fussball, and the German women played well tonight. Congrats! Canada did good, too.

Re: Womens Soccer

My American-German-Austrian kids were cheering like crazy, and my daughter (who - of all nationalities - has a CANUCK in her kindergarten class, how fantastic is that) explained that she HAD to root for the Canadians.

Should've toasted with a Labatt's Blue, Molson or Moosehead. Opted for Austrian beer instead. Tasted good, too.

Eurosport seem to showing a lot of foottie.

17.45 - 20.00 England v. Mexico

Unfortunately, Cablecom where I am, offer Eurosport FR, and despite having an option to change language, it is not available to have the Eurosport English commentary.

Maybe with other providers, or in other areas, you may have more luck.

Re: Womens Soccer

Looking forward to this tonight.

I know the standard of Football is equivalent to a fairly average pub side and there are literally no good female goalkeepers but that actually makes it more fun.

Also it turns out that Sinclair got her nose broke by that elbow, got up played on and scored a goal, good stuff.

Re: Womens Soccer

Well Aluko up front for England is possibly the worst player I have ever seen... ever, including on a school playing field, surely there is someone better than that?
England crumbled after the Mexican equalizer, which although a good strike was really a goalkeeper error. Shame really as England were the better footballing side.

To put answer in the words of F1 driver Nico Rosberg when asked if he will watch the women's WC: "Well, I also watch the paralympics."

Nigeria v Germany was amazing, it has been a long time since I have seen that much violence on a football pitch.
Germany were shocking but it must be quite annoying being punched in the face and kicked in the arse everytime you have the football.

I didn't quite find it amazing - it was in short the worst referee I have ever seen in international sport since the battle of Nürnberg 2006. Only the opposite happened this time - the referee didn't give most fouls and no card no matter how unfair a foul was... I like a football game to be a bit on the tough side and players not taking a dive every time they get touched - but this game was completely out of control and only the referee is to blame: If you don't stop the fouls they get worse and worse.

How many times did she not give clear cards? The Nigerians jumped elbow and knee first into their opponents, including the goalkeeper within the five meter zone! Not once or twice, all the time... I am pretty sure this lady will not referee a German game any time soon again and for the other teams I can only hope that FIFA puts her on a plane back home after this.

I want women's football to become more professional... but that must include the referees. If they do not have women currently trained well enough to referee a tense game - and everyone knew it would be - ffs use a man for the job.

(I don't blame her for making a mistake like stopping the best chance in the first half - all do that. But she was wrong in 90% of her decisions over the entire 90 minutes.)

I'll admit it: I actually watched the game this weekend. The entire one. Good football but for the second time (after the Germany-Nigeria game) a referee that is so bad that I have no words for it. How can you possibly miss a defender picking up a ball and carrying it around? (And what on earth did the defender think she was doing?)
