Canyoning near Cresciano 23.7.2011 - where we fail to remain on the top of a mountain

Salutations,

While the floating trip mentioned in another thread is still to be undertaken (it will definitely happen), a somewhat similar event is happening this weekend down south in Ticino.

Specifically, we take a voluntary trip to our final resting place here:

http://www.swisschallenge.ch/canyoni...n/boggera.html

It is a very easygoing canyon with no particularly treacherous bits. You don't need any canyoning experience, just a normal fitness level and reasonable swimming skills. We'll be provided with all the gear (wetsuit, heavy duty shoes, helmets, etc...) and proper intro on climbing and canyon safety.

The trip is already booked for 9 people, but after some last minute cancellations, we are 4 people short! It is a group of very friendly and somewhat outrageous expats. If you would like to attend, please drop me a PM with you contact details and I'll forward you the info. Places are handed out on a strictly first come first serve basis, unless you bribe me with beer. You know, it's that "some people are more equal than others" kind of arrangement

Please only sign up if you will actually come, since we'll need to pay for your place even if you don't arrive.

Owards!

How cold is the water and are wetsuits provided ?

Also, how do people manage the transport from Zurich ?

Mix of males and females ?

We'll be provided with double layer wetsuits, heavy duty boots and helmets (I've added this info to the OP). Having said that, the water is a bit chilly initially. Once you get submerged and you get an insulating layer of water into the wetsuit, it will get nice and comfortably warm. Last time we did a canyon in this region, 30 minutes into the trip people were floating in the water to cool down in the summer sun, so the cold water was quite pleasant.

Transportation wise we'll try to sort out a 9-seater car to drive there. Failing that, it is relatively easy to get there with a train. First a train to Bellinzona and then a bus to the actual meeting point.

Currently there is one female and 4 dudes, constituting a mix (even though not according to the latest EU gender equality regulations). There is certainly no preference either way.

VERY cold, even this time of the year (and it's not been a hot summer here).

Shush! It's not that bad. It comes straight from melted snow so the weather is going to make little difference to it. With the wetsuit the water is a non issue really.
