Re: Limmat schwimmen

So if you can't make the friday start time give out, what happens, do you have to turn up on the day and wait for a slot?

EDit so yes you can rock up on Saturday but may have a longer wait

Re: Limmat schwimmen

Looks like they have sold of everything but family tickets. Is there another way of getting tickets? Can you just turn up on the day?

Re: Limmat schwimmen

Looks like tickets are sold out unless you're a family or "youth".

However I did find this on their site:
"Nach Ausschöpfung des Basiskontingents stellen wir am Mittwochmorgen ein begrenztes Nachmeldekontingent zur Verfügung."

So I'll be checking tomorrow morning. Looks like so much fun!

Re: Limmat schwimmen

I already have my tickets, a friend bought them... it seems our slot is at 12, although I'd rather prefer a bit later, but won't complain and just enjoy it

Re: Limmat schwimmen

I think the time on the ticket is just the general start time for the event, rather then the times handed out on Friday.

I am looking for 4 tickets if anyone has spares that they would like to sell... have friends coming over from the UK this weekend for. Did not realise that it was so popular and would sell it so quickly !

yea, that s how I understood it too, time slots are only given out on Friday and the event day itself. 12o clock would be the challengers slot anyway, as they go first

I was too late and the tickets are sold out. I didn't think the Limmat would have a max capacity . From some posts it looks like people can just jump in unofficially and swim along (obviously they wont transport our stuff). Is this correct? Any chance of getting in trouble for piling on?

Re: Limmat schwimmen

I did it "officially" last year, then jumped in again with a friend to join another group of friends who'd had a later start time. Lots of folks jumpin in the river from various points along the side, and we didn't see anyone pulling them up about it. You don't have the benefit of having your dry clothes delivered to you at the end of the swim, but even if you did it with t-shirt and trunks on this year, looking at the forecast your clothes will dry pretty quickly anyway. I'd say go for it, and have fun.

Re: Limmat schwimmen

was a great sunny day and i enjoyed the cup of hot tea at the end.

if i knew that i could just jump in, instead of going through the unnecessary swiss bureaucracy, i would have done so and saved myself 18chfs to boot!

Re: Limmat schwimmen

Next year , come and do the annual Basel Rhine swim. It's free, unlimited by numbers, with a medal at the end, plus hand outs of flip flops , inflatable ducks and beachballs. :-)

Re: Limmat schwimmen

it was great, but I was sooooo cold at the end, I thought my teeth were going to fall out they were chattering so much. but for the rest I loved the butterfly, the tea, the atmosphere and the floating
btw, we did see people getting fished out by the seepolice who were trying to float along but didnt have the butterfly.

Yes was great, we then climbed over the fence by the power station and carried on till down by hardbrucke somewhere followed by happy cocktails. Definitely doing it again next year

Really? I thought the water was really warm - at least that's what we would describe as "really warm" back home! I could have stayed in for hours.

The water was quite dirty though. Seeing cigarette butts and pieces of rubbish come past made me remember that living in such a crowded country makes pollution inevitable. :-(

Re: Limmat schwimmen

It certainly was fun. The atmosphere was great and I personally thought the water was nice and warm!

One thing I did notice was that a police boat near HB was speaking to those swimmers who did not have the inflatable and was then pulling them out of the water if they did not have the official entry band on their wrist. Bit of advance warning for those who want to do it unoffically next year!
