Cheaper canoe trip down Thur?

Does anyone have any advice on how to find a reasonably priced canoe trip down the Thur from Andelfingen to Eglisau.

We called up Swiss Trails and they wanted 95chf per person plus a 23chf booking fee.

So for the two of us just to rent a single canoe for an afternoon (not including any transport), they wanted 200chf.

I dream of a day when the Swiss learn that they will actually make more money if they are a) pleasant to their customers b) price things in the realm of reality so that many don't simply walk away?

Thanks for any help,

MakeABigWish

Re: Cheaper canoe trip down Thur?

i looked into various trips last year, all were about the same price and when questioned about the price the general response was that people will pay it.

we decided for a drive towards evian, stayed at a nice B&B and did a river trip for the cost of an afternoon in CH.

Re: Cheaper canoe trip down Thur?

I don't find this expensive.

The canoe's cost quite a bit of money, the overheads are not cheap and the staff need to be paid to cover the tour. I've run watersports centres in a number of places around the world and these prices are comparable to what we charged in the US or in Ireland about 10 years ago and we weren't ripping people off!

As someone who organises group events here in Switzerland it is very difficult to put a package involving any outdoor sports together for less than 100CHF no matter what you do to keep the overheads down.

Look at it another way. How much is a days skiing without an instructor. (Nearly as expensive as this tour!) add an instructor into the bargain and 95CHF for canoe tour seems very reasonable.

I don't think that is expensive for Switzerland

Just for comparison look at some of the Interlaken prices for adventure pursuits: http://www.outdoor-interlaken.ch/en/tours/season/summer

Re: Cheaper canoe trip down Thur?

Contact the Thurgauer Wildwasserfahrer www.twf.ch they can probably rent you a canoe at a reasonable price.
