Re: Paddle Boarding, anyone?

Surfing dog? Maybe I should try it out with mine too... although he is also quite a big boy and probably prefers swimming. Better i try on my own first

Can I bring my chinchilla along ?, she loves getting wet (or she hates it, don't quite know how to interpret her reactions)

Re: Paddle Boarding, anyone?

The weather tomorrow is looking brilliant. Anyone up for an early meet in Seebad Enge? Early, 10am-ish, because those of us driving with boards and dogs will need to find parking!

The weather is totally nice today! I am in Basel this weekend, but next weekend would be great to go. Pets and people get ready for boarding and/or kayaking!!

Re: Paddle Boarding, anyone?

UNfortunately, I can't go either next weekend, or the following.

Re kayak hire: The kanu shop in Konstanz hires boats and will do a pick up eg: for a paddle from KOnstanz to ..... down the lake to Stein en Rhineor Shaffhaussen.

BUt there is a small company that is based next to the Kanu club in Singen, that hires out at a cheaper rate. He has single and double touring/seakayaks and also does a dropoff/pickup service. Very accomodating guy. I will repost as soon as I have retracked down his contact details.

For people without much experience, but a little bit of ability, it would take about 4 hours to paddle from Konstanz to Stein en Rhine, and another 2 hours to paddle from there to Shaffhaussen ( that section is 12km, so 6km an hour) Those times are based on calm water and no head wind. In fact, best to allow longer to be able to stop for lunch on the way, chatting/photo ties etc if paddling in a social group.

Obviously expereinced paddlers who just wanted to get from A to B quickly, would need a shorter time.

For WW paddling, there are obvioulsy lots of rivers of all grades in Switzerland/Fr and Austria. But, for convenience and to be able to have fun times if you have noone to paddle with /no transport, it's hard to beat the artificial slalom course at Huningue, literally minutes over the Fr border fro Basel - public transport from Basel, or else bike or walk from Basel (1 hr walk from SBB, or about 20 minutes on a bike) All sorts of kayaks can be hired - slalom to the latest playboats. Also wetsuits etc are supplied. It's a great place to spend a day ( or a lifetime)

Re: Paddle Boarding, anyone?

You know your stuff, biff! Thanks for sharing. Shame that you guys can't make boarding this weekend. There is a group in Basel that does it every week after work. Maybe we should start our own little board gang.

Re: Paddle Boarding, anyone?

The link can be found here. Look under the part titled "Afterwork-Session". I mean it's not a bunch of English speakers, but something the board rental company offers. Sorry if I made it sound like an EF thing.

I gotta get my own board first. Have you ever used an inflatable board?

Re: Paddle Boarding, anyone?

Hey all,
So I found out Seebad Enge rents paddle boards. This is the info I got:

- It's 25.-/1h (quite a lot, compared to 15.-/2h in Basel)
- they offer courses for 50.-/course (apparently today at 13:00 is one)
- you should call and reserve them in advance they have `only` 5 boards
- For Saturday 2 are already rented out

So my husband and I reserved two boards (in addition to the two already reserved) from 14:00-15:00 tomorrow.

If you wanna come, give the Seebad a call Tel. 044 201 3889.

Hope to see ya then!
Ashley

I'll be there. Probably without dog. He really does not like boat wakes!

Ha ha. Excellent. Well I'll be looking for ya then. I'm short with brown curly hair and my husband is medium height with darn brown curly hair. We'll be the ones speaking English.
