Re: Skiing/Snowboarding 2011/2012

I've asked a couple of others too and you're the third person that said yes, but not where it is.

If it's that much of a secret how about a PM?

Sorry, you are probably a good person but I don't know you. Lift-accessed powder stashes are in short supply these days. I'm sure you know of some that I don't know about as well. The Scandinavians already know about this place. The last thing we need is for everybody in Zurich to know about it as well.

Looks like the great fluffy powder days are behind us.
On the other hand that means that the warm, sunny Apre Ski season just started.

Just remember to be safe and that skiing and snowboarding while intoxicated is extremely FUN!

i think its extremely stupid as a drunk skiier or boarder cant 100% control the ride and can hurt, kill other people on the piste.

Not so fast

Just came back from Andermatt Gemstock where there were heaps of powder from previous days of snowfall. Lots of folks with twin-tip skis and snowboarders were cramming at the cable car. Forecast might be still good - God knows.

Even in the Jura, conditions are good with fresh 25cm snow on Wed/Thurs.
And for cross-country skiing, all the pistes around here are open and good, Les Rasses, Les Cernets, La Brévine, Les Fourgs, etc.

Depends on your ability level. For gapers and weekend warriors no, but for some of us we can board/ski better than we can walk. Just be sure to skip all of the end of season parties if you feel that way.

Re: Skiing/Snowboarding 2011/2012

I have less problem with drunk skiers - I was in the Crazy Kangaroo in St Anton today, and everyone is drunk who skis out of there - than with skiers and snowboarders who don't know their limits. I saw one one non-drunk skier today decapitate a piste marker as he flew out of control down an icy black. Fortunately it was only a piste marker he decapitated, but it was lucky he didn't hit someone else. Most accidents I have seen this last few seasons have been people attempting pistes they are not sufficiently competent to try, people approaching lift queues too fast (and consequently wiping out people in the queues) and people ignoring clear stop or go slow instructions.

I think Bode Miller won almost every race still drunk from the night/morning before the race.

So St.Moritz this weekend it is. Probably the last trip before season ends. Expect hard snow but plenty of sunshine

Why? Even if it continues warm I'll be looking to ski through April and into May. June skiing is not unheard of, although they stop marking/patrolling pistes after 3rd week in May.

Off to Chatel (PdS) this weekend for 2 weeks training. That's gonna be slushy at times, for sure. Let's just hope for cooler weather on the way.

My guess would be super fast fresh groomers in the morning then soft slushy park in the afternoon. Which is the only time I really enjoy the park as its more forgiving then when its a solid block of ice. Anyways thats how it will be for me this weekend in Wallis, next weekend I'll be on my DH bike.

I was in Laax this week. All pistes were good, including valley runs, early on. By late afternoon the lower runs were progressively heavy then slushy, but the pistes above 2200 stayed good and those down to about 1900 were fine. I would guess the Parsenn would be similar.

Parsen Bowl Colorado - yeah! Great spot. Mary Jane is great too. My OH's got a t-shirt with 'I've climbed Mary Jane and survived!.

Re: Skiing/Snowboarding 2011/2012

Possibly the last post of the season. I am thinking about going tomorrow to Engelberg (still the Stand side is open) to make some last turns of the season. If anybody interested in joining, let me know here (or via PM)

Skiing was great today, with a lot of fresh snow . Vis was poor earlier and the wind and snow combined to make the among quite unpleasant on the glacier. Lowe down was fine and the off piste was excellent. Late on the sun came out b below Stand so was even better but it got quite sticky so we called it a say about 3.00.
Not sure if we'll get up tomorrow, as we may have a late night, plus the weather's looking a bit dodgy. PM me and I'll give you my number so we could meet up if we're skiing.
