Where to buy ski at a good price?

Hello everyone,

I would like to buy a ski set, either second hand or new ones are ok. Can you pls let me know how can I get a good price? For new stuff, how much a set including ski, boot, pole for ladys usually cost?

Thank you very much!

Re: Where to buy ski at a good price?

How long is a piece of string??? Have you ever skied before? If so what level are you? Downhill or cross-country?

Personally I'd advise renting a pair and taking lessons first, to see if you like it or not, if you've never skied before.
Whatever you do, do not buy skis without having good advice on suitability from somebody who knows what they are doing, re style, condition, size. So much depends on your height, weight, strength, level, etc. The 'wrong' pair can make it very difficult to learn or be dangerous.

If you are a beginner, you will start with quite a short pair- but as soon as you master the basics, graduate to a slightly taller and stiffer pair for more control, and your bought pair will soon be redundant. Uncomfortable shoes (eg too wide, too narrow, too stiff, etc) can turn the best days skiing into a total nightmare and put you off forever + also give you very bad habits (leaning back is the most common problem with painful boots) - so again - be careful and get advice. I'd offer to come with you to choose but sadly I live too far away.

Many villages ad communities organise a ski/snowboard and ice skates sell or swap late autumn (and cycle, rollerblades in the Spring)- where you can buy very good value second hand. Again, if you attend one of those, do take somebody with you who knows what's what.

you should check http://www.crazyprices.ch/
when it's back up. I bought Nordica boots for chf120 instead of 600 and Dynastar skis for 400 instead of 1100. They have top qualty equipment from last year or two years ago but new.

I'm a snowboarder myself and I would never buy a board that I have not tested first.
Go to the ski rental of your choice and tell them that you're intending to buy, but you want to rent first. You can then try different sets and then buy the one you like. Since you're buying a rental, they usually make a good price.

Look at ricardo.ch. I bought recently *new* ski's (still in plastic) for a whopping CHF 10. An elderly woman in a decent house sold them, it did look all honest. She told me her daughter liked snowboarding more.

Re: Where to buy ski at a good price?

Bourse à skis - ou 'troc de skis' - most village/area has one about October time. Very important to take somebody with you who knows what's what, or you might end up with totally unsuitable stuff. And take ski socks with you to try the boots.
