Cilmbing the Matterhorn

Anybody here already done this?

I wasn't sufficiently (back) in shape this year to finally do it, but do have quite some experience (4000ers, 5000ers) and it's been on my hit list for a long time now.

Would be interested to hear experience of those who've (tried to) climbed it. I'm in particular interested in the Lion ridge (Italian side).

Re: Cilmbing the Matterhorn

Sadly I will never make it... way, way above my level. The closest I have got (and the closest I ever will get) is the Hörnlihütte. Good luck with this though, it must be a fantastic experience especially if you go via one of the less well known routes.

It'll be at least a year away for me - both to get in shape and allow me a full climbing season to polish up rock climbing skills. I figure the lesser know routes (within reason, I'm definately not going up a TD north face) may actually be a lot safer (as well as enjoyable) due to the much lower traffice on them.

It's a bit of a dream to do the Matterhorn, one to get out of the way rather than just read and think about it. Maybe next year (I hope!)
