I'm coming to Switzerland for a couple days with my Mom who is visiting me in Europe while I'm on exchange here in Austria. We want to go skiing in Switzerland (yes, I know Austria has great skiing too but she's always wanted to ski Switzerland, and I get to ski Austria all year).

We can't go any more west then Zurich though.

With that said, what are your recommendations for staying at? And reasonably priced accommodations, or even a BnB would work great.
As has been mentioned several times, it really depends on what you want. Here's a few thoughts from my own experience.

Flims/Laax has some good skiing, but is a bit soul-less in my opinion.

Davos/Klosters is great, as others have said, and probably has the most choice of all the Western-CH areas in terms of levels of difficulty, types and size of terrain and multiple areas. I'd stay in Klosters rather than Davos though, as the latter is just too big and spread out, so you need to get buses everywhere. Klosters is nice, if a little quiet in the evenings.

St Moritz is the place for style and money to be seen, and although I've only skied one little bit of the area (Silvaplana) I believe it also has a good range of skiing available.

Then there's Flumsergberg, a charming little village in the 'Heidiiland' area, SE of Zurich, which I rate quite highly for unused but easily-accessible off-piste skiing, as well as a nice range of groomed trails. I lost a ski there one winter, and had a call from them in the summer to go and pick it up from the tourist office, after the snow had melted so they could see it. Nice people.

South from Zurich is Engelberg, where I live in the season, and therefore consider the best ski area in the world. A good size, not too big, not too small, with arguably the best single off-piste run in the world, the Laub, and a good variety of skiing for the more advanced skier.

Andermatt slightly further south again has a lot of skiing available too, also a charming village and easily accessible (as are most in CH, of course). Plenty of off-piste, and like Engelberg has some glacier skiing, so is high and reliable for snow.

As for accommodation, most Swiss towns will have a range of types, and if you're looking for good value I'd tend towards the 'hotel garni' or 'pension' type of place. Generally family-run and friendly, with limited facilities, but sufficient for a couple of days. And there's usually no problem finding somewhere to stay, even at peak periods with just a few days notice.

Wherever you choose, I hope you enjoy.

Cheers

So a slight change if plans. I can now go anywhere in Switzerland, so what's the best? I'm going to St Anton a couple weeks earlier with some friends so I will hit that too.
