Zermatt Snowboarding this Weekend????

Hey, just moved to Montreux, and a friend of mine and I would like to go to Zermatt this weekend to do some snowboarding. A lot of the lifts are open. Just want to go for a half day. Do you guys think its worth it? Has anyone ever went around this time? Anyone want to join?

If I'm wondering if there is snow, I usually look at the local webcams or the countrywide website swisswebcams.

Re: Zermatt Snowboarding this Weekend????

Its going to be packed. Race season starts next week, plus all the snowboarders and skiers training in the park. Mid week would be much better. You can still go but I think this time is more novelty than anything else because you won't have much space to do anything. Of course you may get lucky and everybody else goes to Saas Fee to avoid the crowds leaving Zermatt empty.

Yes, I went at this time of year for a couple of years for ski trial weekends. I didn't really enjoy it, just remember it was busy and VERY cold because you need to go so high up - the wind was biting and the snow was pretty hard.

Nice to start the season early though - with that and ending with Snowpenair in the Jungfrau region in April, you can get a good 6 month season

Bulletproof snow. Hard, hard, hard. Perfect if your training for racing.

Thanks for the info, just want to do a bit of riding to start the season a bit earlier. Just want to check it out. Doesn't have to be perfect. It should snow some more this week.

Re: Zermatt Snowboarding this Weekend????

Zermatt has permanent summer skiing but yeah, very hard and cold. I'd suggest wait a few more weeks until we get some decent snowfalls - you'll have a much better experience. Also in many resorts the ski season doesnt really kick in until Christmas. For the average Swiss, they only start thinking about skiing where there is snow down in the cities. You can usually get some cheap pre-season deals and empty slopes early season.
