Re: Winter outdoor clothing

From Lausanne, I go shopping for sports items in France (with public transport!).

For winter hikes I have these winter pants (or at least, I think that's them, mine have the same features) and I have this first layer which is very light-weight, but still nice and warm.

I also have a good fleece and a light-weight windproof/waterproof jacket. So that's 3 layers, exactly like Tom1234 was advising.

Re: Winter outdoor clothing

When I went out to try on hiking trouser and jackets I noticed that there are much more outdoor clothing choices for men.

Outrageous!

The gender of clothing is another marketing hogwash. I am on the thinner side and have trouble finding well-fitting clothes. Most of my mountain wear are female models, and trust me I have a very normal masculine body, only a bit thin, and if I don't tell no one has come to know that my kit is female. OK, someone will argue, the cut of the jacket is different, wider at hips etc. True, but then all decent jackets/trousers come with velcro or cord, so you can make it perfect for yourself.

When it comes to boots, the difference is even more hypothetical.

Ask any honest salesperson and they will tell you, large boned women and small-framed men can easily look at clothes in the wrong section. Fortunately you are in Switzerland where they still make dresses for normal humans (the way humans were supposed to be shaped), in America, well, let's not go into that.

Re: Winter outdoor clothing

I prefer slim-fitting clothes and don't want to rely on the guy's department (the cuts don't flatter our physical assets).
