Oh for heaven's sake.

If a team playing as negatively as that "deserves to win", then we may as well all pack up and go home. I'm not a fan of either team but over both matches it was as plain as day who "deserved" to win.

I think the overall possession stats show Chelsea as having less than 20% of the possession. Factor in the missed penalty, the multiple times the woodwork saved Chelsea, the cynicism of Drogba in the first leg, Terry in the 2nd... need I go on?

Yep, Chelsea are through, and that's football -- but "deserved"??

Go on then Pachyderm,i`ll take up the gauntlet.

Barca are the best possession side in the world and quite likely the best in the history of the game.

I don`t know what other tactics Chelsea could of played.

Of course possession is a massive thing in football, but we should`nt get obsessed with it.Barca failed to take advantage with all that possession against ten men.
Drogba played brilliantly.I`m no fan of the amateur dramatics, but he led the line very well and played his part defencively. He even gave Messi a present which Leoni managed to miss. It`s not been his finest moment, this semi v Chelsea.
Lampard played a big part in the goal at London,he did the same tonight for Chelseas first.
Chelsea rode their luck, but defending, keeping shape, showing some guts and scoring goals are also important parts of a football match (apoligies for stating the obvious).

Possession will often lead to winning football matches, probably the majority of games, but not all of them.

I think Barca are better than Chelsea, but,i also think it hard on Chelsea to suggest their leviathan effort to win was undeserved.

Good. Drogba spends more time on the floor than my carpet.....

Well argued, but I just didn't like what I saw. I think the CL final will be the poorer without the best side in Europe. Would have loved to have seen a Barca - Real final. If it's Bayern - Chelsea? Oh dear. It's a bit like that question that schoolboys ask each other -- would you rather die by burning to death or freezing to death....?

lots of people out there are Bayern fans, you know (me included ) and having them play in the final in Munich would be fantastic. I just hope they can play well tonight and make it through! Besides, haven't Barca - Real already played 4 or 5 times this season?

John Terry inadvertently won it for Chelsea - at the expense of missing the final.

If he hadn't got sent off, Chelsea would have been more open attacking, and would have been caught out by Barca - then it would have been a goal fest.

However, with Chelsea defending as they did, Barca just got more frustrated - just look at how Messi didn't perform.

What a pleasure to see Torres rubbing their noses in it at the end.
He was send off because he acted like a jerk. I saw what he did many times and it was a very unnecessary stupid act.

Messi needs a break. He has been playing every matches since.... Well I don't remember when he didn't play.

He also needs a partner who can score, someone like Samuel Etoo back in the day. Alexis Sanchez just doesn't cut it.

The Champions League really should go back to its old name of European Champions Cup,the "Cup" part being the important bit and its not as if Chelsea are representing England as our Champions, loads of teams qualify who are not their countries Champions.
My point being it is still effectively a ko competition and so as in eg the FA Cup ( especially pre Premier League, when the clubs did`nt rest their best players quite so disrespectively)the best team do not always win in,infact often do not.

As we know Cup football is a different creature to League.

If we had a European Super League (i`m definately no fan!) you would get the best as Champions.

So,we have to accept the Champions League for what it is ,a ko cup competition,at least from the last 8 onwards.

So,Chelseas "Battle of the Alamo" game plan most certainly was on the back foot for 90% of the time, but they did venture out from behind `castle walls`occassionally and it was very exciting in my opinion.

I think Barca,Real M,the Milans and the Manchesters are usually the best in Europe (Real and Barca probably the top two at the moment and Man City are okay not "usual" but they are getting there)but you know,it is good that they don`t always get their own way and the Football Gods occassionally say "no!""Change is as good as a rest."

I hope for Real to beat Bayern as home advantage as it were will be a big help to Bayern in the final, you would think so.Great club games (Real v Barca eg) do not always produce memorable matches and who knows,a Chelsea Bayern/Real Final might prove to be a classic.

To add `weight`to this theroy, one of the best games i ever saw was Bristol Rovers 5 Charlton Ath 5.

I'm not disputing that - but because Chelsea were down to 10 men, they had to change their game plan and restrict and frustrate Barca, and try to counter on the break.

So because of not being able to play more openly, it clearly helped them secure the draw, and ultimately win through.

More than one person said exactly the same thing in the pub last night; Chelsea would have lost if Terry had stayed on the pitch.

They played exactly the same tactics in the 1st leg with 11 men on the pitch!

Re: Barca vs Chelsea Tonight

For the fans and spectators, football is about entertainment. For the clubs it's about winning first, as there is a lot of money at stake. Chelsea did what they needed to do to win. It may not have been pretty or exciting or entertaining, but they are in the final. Barcelona is the better team, but if they can't beat the 6th team in the Premiership over two legs by adapting their style of play I can't say they deserve to be in the final.

If I was cynical, or a conspiracy theorist, I would suspect Messi was involved in some sort of match fixing scheme to throw both games. Either that or Chelsea did a great job neutralising him.

I have to say, the second half was the most tense, yet at the same time the most excruciatingly boring football I have watched in years.

That is not enough. The guy is playing like crazy since years, do every single match, etc.

He also need better support from players and barca needs a much better defense.

You mean against Real Madrid? Off course not! The title depended on that match so he played.

He is a superb player just not a complete footballer like Ronaldo The only thing he can match Ronald in is diving skills lol

Ever heard of special one's special player who has been banging goals everywhere non stop? Messi has much much better team than Ronaldo. Messi would be toast in English premier league. Now bow to Ronaldo.

No, you're right. I must have misheard it on the match preamble.

Oh, and Ronaldo is a smug-faced little oik.
