Referee tried to help DE? Penalty justified?

Hello

I feel injusticed when I watched the referee giving a debatable penalty kick to DE at 90th minute, in an apparent attempt to give DE a chance to level the score with Italy.

What is your view?

PS: I am neutral for them both.

Ball hit arm in penalty area allowing player to control ball = penalty.

At least he had the balls to call it - no pun intended.

And anyway the chances of Germany levelling in 2 minutes was between zero and nothing, so what's the big deal?

By the way, why do you feel "injusticed" if you are neutral?

Most referees will not give a penalty based on accidental handball handling. Plus under those circumstances?

I am neutral in the sense that I don't care who wins or lose.
I felt a little injusticed because I thought the referee was playing a game himself.

I also thought Germany should have had a pen when Pirlo handled on the line in the 1st half.
Does that cancel out your injustice?

Totally justified penalty... Accidental or not, sometimes the refs miss it, sometimes they see it, sometimes they turn a blind eye... this time was caught out, so i think it was good... Germany having the opportunity to level in the stoppage time, nil...

Italy played really well last night, deserved the win imo... Germany played better in the second half though.

Chest rather than arm. IMO. The actual penalty was a nailed on handball (as in controlled with arm) though.

Re: Referee tried to help DE? Penalty justified?

I've seen penalties given for less obvious handballs. The ball came from a long distance, he had plenty of time to move his arm out of the way, he didn't hence penalty. I also agree with Paddy the from the couple of replays I saw of Pirlo's block it seemed to touch the arm. If it did it should've also been a penalty and possibly red card

There was nothing debatable on that penalty, controlled the ball with hand clearly. As others have said plenty penalties given for less and it would have been more of an issue if the ref didn't give it since then the cameras would have highlighted that it really should have been given.
