5 min/km running partner in the Zürich area?

I just moved to the Zürich area and am looking for a running buddy or group that runs around 5 min/km. I am aware of the Züri Lauftreff group, but worry that I might be a bit of a pace-pusher there. I also signed up for Meet2Move just now but am not fully sure of how it works. At the moment, I am just trying to enjoy my running with an eye towards starting to train for the Zürich marathon at the turn of the year. Thanks!

Re: 5 min/km running partner in the Zürich area?

I think to find a running buddy(ies), you need to give a range of speed. 5min/km is a competition speed for most normal fit marathon runners. The speed you are looking at are for a little too fast for normal marathon runners during training (3.5hr for 42km)

Unless you are running at that speed but only for a very short run (2km)?
Or otherwise, go running on your own around the same area and same time, and u will find yourself with other runners that are regular there..

I honestly do my runs at that pace! My last two marathons have been in 3 hr 13 min and 3 hr 14 min so 5 min/km is just about my casual pace. I honestly hope there are a few people in the area who run that pace, if not faster, as I would like to get faster over the marathon distance.

I disagree. I'm overweight, though not horribly so, and I train 10km at about 5:15 per kilometer. It's not all that fast a pace.

Hi,

I would be happy to go running with you in 5min/km or faster. I am quite busy, but I'm sure we'll be able to go at least once a week ... pm me if interested.

Re: 5 min/km running partner in the Zürich area?

In cool conditions, I manage about 4:30km/h for a flat 10km on a hard surface, and I would be one of the slower runners I know! 5min/km is a very reasonable training pace for a 45min-1:15min run with company.

Hi,
I regularly run 6 to 7 mile runs at that pace (7:50 to 8:15 min/mile).
That is, as long as I keep around the lake. Hills tend to add between 30 and 60 sec per mile, depending on how steep and how long.
I also do longer runs. Up to 12 miles I aim to an average of 8:30 min/mile.
For distances between 15 and 18 miles I aim to 8:45 or even 9:00.
I have done very occasionally longer runs, up to 20 or 22 miles, but never all the way to full marathon distance and not in the last couple of years anyways.
I usually run alone.
I would be happy to run with someone that challenges me - although I certainly don't want to be a liability.

I live in Ruschlikon (about 2 miles north of Thalwil) and work in Zurich in the Mythenquai area (on the lake).
I can run early AM from home or lunch/PM from the office.

Let me know if you are interested.

Cheers

F

Re: 5 min/km running partner in the Zürich area?

HI

I am always looking for people to run with around Zurich I used to be a sub 3 hour (just...2.58) marathoner but after a number of years of ultra marathon running more like 3.15 at the moment.

Let me know where and when you run and lets get a group going...I truly miss having people to run with which I haven't really found consistently in Zurich.

You can run regularly with Cityrunning.ch but I stopped going as found I was a pace pusher there too which isn't always appreciated. Good for a social run though they tend to do 6min/km.

Give me a shout...I live in Seefeld, work in the city but as weekends run all over the place )

Re: 5 min/km running partner in the Zürich area?

Just pick a regular day and time, and people will turn up...but you need to be clear about the pace or if you welcome all runners be mindful they wont be left behind.
We had a great Wednesday night running group going for 2 years where we almost all did marathons, fastest sub 3.30 and everyone under 4 hours. It was great for the company on the runs, the training in the inclimate weather, and we made some great friends too! Unfortuantely lives change and most of us have moved on...but Id encourage one of you to take the initiative and get it going! Happy running!

Awesome.

I am in for lunches in Zurich or after work from 6pm?!? I tend to do morning runs alone... funnily enough I cant find folks to run at 5am! )

I can be free tomorrow and Thursday at both lunch and after work if people fancy getting started with a good run......

Add some HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) twice per week and you will soon do 5 min/km.

Google HIIT or Tabata for more information.

OK, I'll give it a go and report back (if I don't die in the process... ).

Re: 5 min/km running partner in the Zürich area?

Sadly, won't be able to get a run in then. I have friends in town this weekend and I think running will have to move down my priority list. It looks like we have a critical mass of people who run about 5 min/km. Great. Could we try to meet up for a run next weekend? I'm thinking:

When: Saturday, August 25 @ 10:00
Starting point: Thalwil bahnhof (or anywhere else really that might be a good starting point - open to suggestions!)
Pace: 5:00/km
Run: 60-75 minutes

Thoughts?
