Could we be in for an early season??

Howdy folks

I have noticed these past weeks the evenings are pretty chilly. This morning was particularly fresh, and then heard reports of snow on the radio in the mountains.

Given last years late arrival, I was anticipating ski season being some way off. I am relative newbie to the starting of the season with only 2 years of experience of when to get excited. Last year was very late by all accounts.

With several trips planned over Xmas and feb/March in Chamonix and the three valleys, i am already too excited. Is there much chance some local spots will open much sooner? Or is the recent chill a small tease?

It means we're in for an Indian Summer - nice warm end of the month into October.
First decent snowfall in the Alps, end Nov/early Dec, then rain for Christmas. Proper winter for New Year.

Anything above 2500m should be fine though; 2000m will be hit and miss, and under 2000 you have only 2 hopes.

It's rare for any snow falling below glacier levels at this time to make it through to the season proper, so don't hold your breath.

Having said that, we'll almost certainly be up on the Titlis glacier for the start of the season in three weeks time Anyone fancy joining us?

Mate, I am itching to get out there, I may well be up for that. I have not ski'd the glacier there, but love the rest of what Engelberg had to offer last year.

Keep us posted
