Wildhaus - Unterwasser - Alt St. Johann skiing

Has anyone skied this resort? Was told today it had good off-piste options? Interested to hear any experiences. Thanks!

Yes, I love it.

I usually buy the Season Ticket "Meilenweiss, which covers 12 Areas in Switzerland, Malbun in Liechtenstein and 6 Areas in Austria.
Toggenburg is my favourite Area, but the downside is, it takes forever to get there by public transport from ZH. I can not advice on the offpiste as I prefer the slopes myself.
On a Sunny day, the waiting time to get up to Chäserugg can be quite long, but the view is great, so easy to live with it

Doc.

I've never skiied there, but my husband and his family are from there and it is a very beautiful place to visit. Even if just to walk around... If you are driving, it takes about 15min from the Autobahn until you reach Wildhaus. You might need chains in the winter if it has snowed a lot and you don't have 4wheel drive. Good luck and hope you enjoy it as much as we do

Thanks, I'll give it a try this season. Just looking at alternatives to Engleberg (which I think is just awesome) that I can reach in less time from Schaffhausen as I don't want to drive there every good day of the season again this year! Also think Klewenalp may be interesting from that perspective on a fresh powder day.

I skied the three areas last year and you can ski till you drop.
A ticket will allow you to ski all three in that day, or if you are good you can get a week pass and ski what you like.
As for snow chains it would be good to have them with you be normally the roads are always salted so very little trouble.
There was some specials going when I was there,
1 Friday specials, your ticket is cheaper.
2 There was a deal going with Migros , Coop but I never found out what that was about.
There is a Reka village there and they supply a free bus to the lifts if you stay with them.

Some German friends of mine ski Waldhaus every year, and swear by it. However, they're swearing to the food of the hotel they stay at, and the skiing though excellent is of secondary importance to that trip...

Re: Wildhaus - Unterwasser - Alt St. Johann skiing

I have skied it regularly and it is a really good location with mostly intermediate slopes.

The main issue is if the season is not so good with less snow then the lower height of this resort does mean it is not so good but with good snow its brilliant. It can also be a bit foggy and icy near the bottom at times. I guess the other thing to consider is that if you ski the Chasserugg area there is a rather long t-bar that gets a bit tiring espcially on cold periods as your feet dont get respite from the cold ground.

However it remains one of my favorite and from schaufhaussen you should be there in under 1 hour by car
