| | Crossfit Lausanne
Hi fellow english-forum'ers.
First of all, this is my first post in this forum. So hi everyone!
I was recently introduced to CrossFitness in Denmark, from where I origin. I must admit it got the better of me, and are more appealing to me than the '90 bodybuilding, that I am used to.
Therefore, I would like to know if anyone know of a place in Lausanne, not Leman, where they do CrossFit?
Best regards,
Morten Krog Kristensen

I was actually thinking about starting a place in Lausanne, if nothing else is available. Are you into crossfit yourself? And if yes, do you know anything about the interest in the Lausanne area or in Switzerland in general?
Thanks in advance. |

Thanks in advance. | | | | | I started doing Crossfit at the beginning of the year with Jeff at www.hillseekerfitness.com near Zurich. Thoroughly endorsed, but probably way too far for you.
Whereas Crossfit and other high intensity function training is getting quite mainstream in the US and some other countries, it is still pretty "confidential" here. However "boot camp" is getting into the vocabulary.
For the Swiss, at the risk of type-casting, I wonder if its a bit too "grungy" to have real mainstream appeal: our hosts do like their pro-kit and just-so for any given activity. Im sure you can drop in to a few boxes and get a sense of the community.
Having visited some big boxes in the US and South Africa, things are still at a different order of magnitude here. Versus the US, the size of the market, relative "un-knowness" and finding the right space at an affordable rent and the high equipment costs in Europe probably make it more of a passion-business than outright money-spinner at this stage is my guess.

Zürich is slightly too far for me.
My biggest concern is also, that the form of training is just too tough on the Swiss people. Us, in Denmark, are used to working out till we puke, while i think the Swiss populations is a little more into a more gentle form of sport. Again, in risk of type-casting. No offense, if any Swiss people read this, and I would love for them to prove me wrong.
Nonetheless, there should be a growing market for this kind of sport, as the awareness raises and it becomes more normal. That said, it is hard to imagine that the market will shrink in and stop, taking into the consideration how small the awareness is now. It is shocking how few people know of this kind of sport.
I will visit a box this Sunday, to see what kind of people do crossfit here, and I will talk to the owner of that gym, to get some ideas for expansion. In other words, I am on it. The beauty about crossfit, is that basically, all it takes to start a place, is a place. Afterwards, expansions are pretty much unlimited, but a bar, a pull-up bar, some medicine balls, kettlebells and a place, and you are up and running well.

SC | | | | | Haha. Just trying to analyse here. Didn't mean to step on anyones toes. But I'll rephrase it then, to gentler fitness types. Better?
I'm afraid there will be no prize. But would you as a Swiss person consider crossfit as a fitting type of fitness for you?

Actually, I was just at crossfit Léman today. Awesome place, and highly recomended from here at least. Great gear, great trainers, fantastic people. Everything was just top notch! As it is going to take some time before I'll get started here, if I decide to, I would encourage you to join up at Léman, ASAP. I will let you know if I decide to do something serious here!

Hi guys,
I live in Lausanne and was also hoping that there were would be something closer than Crossfit Leman to join. However, I have spent the past month looking at different places and options and it seems that travelling all the way to Gland is probably going to work out the best. I've completed the foundation classes and will be signing up for full membership soon.
They have a great community vibe at Crossfit Leman and all the people are friendly and encouraging. It's not just a regular gym and that's why I'm prepared to spend more time/money travelling to work out with like-minded fitness enthusiasts. They're the kind of people you will become friends with rather than just lift weights with and then go your separate ways... Would definitely recommend the place to people who haven't been there before.
Having said that, I would certainly be interested in meeting with people in Lausanne to get something smaller set up there - even if it's bodyweight training in a park or something - although that's obviously going to be harder now that winter is on it's way...
If you have any questions/comments, please get in touch.
Hopefully meet some of you at the next WOD!

Hi,
Also interested in doing Cross-Fit in Lausanne (and actually also a Dane ).
With the combination of Swiss people and expats in the region I am sure there is enough interest... will continue to follow this thread, hoping for something closer to Lausanne to open up.

Now the weather is getting better (or even before), you could consider meeting up in a park, or parcours vita or wherever, uni track etc and doing your "WoD" using the equipment to hand and some easily transportable stuff.
Lots of online resources with programming ideas (ie suggested workouts), and you could club together and probably find a coach from Bern or another box to come and provide some guidance.
There is a group in Zurich that does that even in the winter snow. I could put you in touch.

Hi folks.
I'm visiting Lausanne this spring, and would like to do some Crossfit while I'm here. I'm from Denmark as well (Crossfit Copenhagen), and really miss the Crossfit.
If there is enough interest, we could arrange something ourselves in a park or similar, but it would really be nice if we could get our hands on some simple equipment at least.
Cheers
Kristian
