How old is he?

My Youtube mojo seems to be borked, so here's the text instead:

Rimmer: When you're younger you can eat what you like, drink what you like, and still climb into your 26" waist trousers and zip them closed. Then you reach that age, 24-25, your muscles give up, they wave a little white flag, and without any warning at all you're suddenly a fat bastard.
He's 28... doing well so far! Lucky bugger.

If you can keep your current weight while enjoying cake, cheese and alcohol, you can also maintain your current weight minus 5 kg.....if you want to.
You are, of course, absolutely correct. It just means I have to put in that extra effort to lose the 5kg first which right now I can't be bothered to do. As I said in an earlier post, I am happy at 69kg (especially considering that, at the start of last year I weighed 84kg). 64 or 65kg would be great but I know how to do it if I want to.

Re: I simpy can't lose weight ? :-S any advice ??

There were A LOT of good suggestions here, but I just wanted to emphasize something that I think a lot of people overlook. Something that worked for me that I wasn't sure would work was going on a vegan diet. I was not over weight, and played basketball 3 days a week and worked out... and once I went vegan I lost 17lbs of fat that I had for many years. Just a suggestion and my $0.02.

First- go to your doctor , do blood tests, check your thyroid, diabetes, hormonal imbalance/PCOS.

Then- you should find some time for yourself and this means- in case you have some problems on your mind, no matter what it is, write them down. Sometimes a psychological blockage may affect you in ways you don't think of. It would be way too much here to write so no point. I am talking about- coming to Switzerland (so new country for you), different food, maybe no friends, nobody you can talk to etc. These could affect you.
Or maybe go to a psychologist /counselling.

You did lots of things that didn't work (you say). Maybe you should wait more? Maybe you need a metabolism boost? For this I drink 3 nights in a row a tea made from ginger and cayenne extract Don't snack! At least no '' bad things''.

If these don't work- then go to a dietitian.

Good luck!

Yet. Wait until he gets a little older and his metabolism slows down. Plus, his blood work may be less sparkly than someone else same age and weight that eats better. Still, good for him he can eat whatever he wants - life is to short to eat rice cakes all day long!
I think this is not necessarily true -- some people maintain normal weight all their lives while eating what they want. The problem is that for being fit and healthy having normal weight is necessary but not sufficient. Some people can have normal weight at any age without controlling it. But I haven't seen a person over 35 with a fit and good looking body if they don't do any sport. Sport has it all in one for anyone -- it helps lose and maintain weight, it makes you look good and healthy, and also it feels great. People really get used to having physical activity and enjoy it, as opposed to diets. If I wanted to lose weight I would concentrate on some kind of sport instead of looking for a diet.

And if you have a lot of weight to loose you will not succeed if you don't change your diet.

Fact is (again). You cannot out-exercise a bad diet. Full stop.

Why not? If you don't change your diet then you have the same calorie intake. In case of increased physical activity at least some energy has to come from body fat then

But I do agree that somewhat watching how much you eat is also needed. I would still concentrate more on sport, it is much more fun than counting calories.

Re: I simpy can't lose weight ? :-S any advice ??

You might want to try the blood group diet, D'adamo's book Eat Right 4 Your Type. I'm now on this and a gluten free diet, but this is cos I also have an autoimmune disease and am on high dose prednisolone. Works for me. I don't show any of the steroid induced side effects at all.

If you are Blood type O you are anyway susceptible to putting on weight if you have food containing gluten, breads pastas etc. which you are anyway avoiding, but maybe you need to eat some of the foods that are " beneficial " to your blood type.

Let me know if you need any help with this diet. I'm B and my partner is O so I've researched quite a bit about these 2 groups.

Hi ,

I know maybe this is not the most interesting post you've ever read , but unfortunately for me , since I arrived to Switzerland my diet changed in a way that from 60 kgs weight ( my height is 1.75 mt) I am now 71, 11 kgs more !! I've tried many things to burn fat and lose wieght , daily walkings, fitness, change of diet to no fat, no bread no fat-makers , not even sugar , drinking a lot of water and I have just lost 2 kgs , almost nothing :-( so as you can see i am quite desperate because I can't simply get rid of this "extra kgs", and even is quite shameful to post this openly I do it in order to get some advice from you in case someone over here have or had the same problem as me . I will appreciate your comments :-)

As I wrote: "You can not out-exercise a bad diet". This means that if you eat crap food and put on weight, you cannot increase the amount of exercise and expect to maintain your weight as the amount of calories burnt are way less than the calorie intake from eating crap food.

If you maintain your weight without doing any exercise, your diet is already not too bad and then you will obviously start loosing weight if you add a decent amount of fat burning activities.

My claim is mainly related to those people who tell themself that "a few donuts will not hurt as I ran 5 K this morning...."
They are wrong.

My claim is related to people who in an attempt to lose weight start looking for detailed diet plans instead of trying to bring regular physical exercise into their everyday lives. I am not saying that controlling how much one eats is not needed. Diets just seem to me a bit overrated compared to sport.

Re: I simpy can't lose weight ? :-S any advice ??

Technically you are right - you can't out-exercise a bad diet. A bad diet will not only contain too many calories but will often be in the wrong form. Crisps, chips, burgers, fizzy pop and chocolate will not provide the body will the right balance of nutrients nor energy release to allow it to exercise effectively.

However, an active person does have more "spare" calories in their diet to allow them to eat the odd pizza, drink the odd (6-pack) of beer and gorge on chocolate once in a while.

I struggle to consume the calories my body needs in a day - but I am in the middle of training. 4,000 calories is harder than you think to consume.

The old adage of "everything in moderation" rings true. If you don't have the self-control to only a "row" of chocolate without consuming a whole bar it is probably best you don't put it in your shopping basket in the first place.

But it isn't if you with the word "diet" means "what I eat" and not "a specific fad combilation of food".

Correct.....if it indeed is odd and only once in a while.

Not so. There's a limit to how much fat the body will store, and in what time period, so if someone's eating 10000kcal a day then for sure a lot of the ingested energy is simply being excreted. So an increase in exercise may simply reactivate the gut->blood sugar process. It's only when there's not sufficient food in the gut for the body's needs that it will start converting stored body fat.

Yeah....you touch an important topic there.
From a " avoid gaining fat" point of view, it is better to eat 4 liters of ice cream in one sitting than 200 milli liters per day for 20 days in a row.

Not least because it's almost guaranteed to remain in the body for a very short time.

Well, I'm sure it would make me vomit, anyway.

I am a big fan of Insanity too and I have also done P90X.

However......Insanity is not for everyone. You need a certain level of fitness before taking on such a tough program. Maybe start out with Turbo Fire........just my 2 cent.
