I never once mentioned it as being healthy, I don't believe in the concept of healthy or unhealthy food, I only mentioned it to Nil as a possible alternative to the sugar she was craving as I believe it is better alternative to refined sugar. Overall diet is what counts, I'm more than happy to consume agave in the way I do just as I do with other sugary food stuffs which make up a minimal percentage of my diet.
I will predict the next probing question....

Why do you think its better

Stevia has some sort of weird aftertaste, a bit like aniseed. You love it or you hate it, but as far as I'm concerned it's too strong for my tastes
If I ever get around to using either of them, I'll let you know! Now, where are those cookbooks? I think one of them was even vegan - can it be?

All these mono- and di-saccharides are unhealthy, people! Get with the program (sic)!

The only truly healthy sweetener is carbon. Sprinkle coal on your porridge and you'll lose hundreds of kilos and be able to run a marathon in twenty minutes.

Trust me. I'm an expert!

As I mentioned earlier. It is sweeter than sucrose (granulated sugar). Therefore for the same level of sweetness you will have to add less. Less means fewer calories. If it contains more than just the fructose it may have additional complex sugars, vitamins and minerals.

What?
55% carbohydrates will cause diabetes, not prevent it. You need to eat to stabilise your blood sugar and all carbohydrates convert to sugar. The majority of your food should be protein/fat.

You mean somebody who went to night school for well in excess of three months in the 70s? No, not me.

Until now, I didn't increase my carbohydrates but reduced it. Basically I eat less bread, less sugar, less cheese and more veggies.

I considerably reduced my portions. Last night, I made a carrots salad to satisfy my sugar craving and it did the trick.

I'm currently traveling thru Morocco and don't get internet access everywhere but coconut sugar is a great alternative and even better than Agave which I also use from time to time.

Must say the dead animals hanging outside of butcher shop everywhere in Casablanca have me a little bit unsettled

But unless you are fat (properly fat I mean) reducing your calories is not required. Try to increase your protein so you're eating 0.75grams of protein per kilo you weigh per day. This isn't anything like exact, just a rough guide. Remember that, within your total calories, eating fat with stabilise your blood sugar and make you feel happier and fuller.

You should try babybell cheese for small snacks. 0 carbs. Cheese in general has very low to 0 carbs in it

Low calories diet is apparently helping to reverse diabetes.

http://www.diabetes.org.uk/About_us/...pe-2-diabetes/
http://www.nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk/Se...OOKLET2012.pdf

This is a booklet from the NHS regarding this diet. I've not read the paper but I'd think that generally this is more useful for people that are overweight. From the booklet people who were over 100KG.

I'd say that a diet of 1200 calories per day isn't healthy for someone as small as you are and I hope your dietician knows what he is doing

Quote:
During the 8 weeks of the diet;
• No poultry, fish or meat
• No bread or pasta
• No dairy products (even full skimmed milk!)
• No root vegetables like potato, sweet potato, turnip
• No pulses
• No fruits
• No alcohol
These are the rules for the diabetes reversal diet.
