So therefore someone with more fat cells than someone else, with everything else being equal, will burn more energy.
Therefore total mass is valid. | | | | | Sure, maybe. Again, I quote the NHS page (did you actually read it?) rather than voicing my own opinions | Quote: | | | | overweight people may actually have a higher metabolism than their leaner counterparts, reflecting the energy requirements of maintaining a larger body size. | | | | | |

What I understand is:
- for an equal weight, the one with more muscle mass will burn more calories
- an overweight person will burn more than a skinny one, even if they have an excellent muscle mass
Which makes sens IMHO

Suggesting that keeping an (accurate and honest) food diary before changing any diet would be a good idea.

People either underestimate or are just not honest with themselves. Like a guy I used to work with who was put on a strict diet so he could lose weight to have an operation. He ate exactly what was on the diet sheet and would proudly tell people so but manage to "forget" about his nightly bottle of wine and pack of biscuits he ate with his afternoon cuppa. An extreme example maybe but I see it all the time, I know I'm not immune to it either. | Quote: | | | | | Actually the article shows that the study found that obese people underestimated how much they ate. Putting health issues on the side, I couldn't understand why I couldn't lose the few kilos left since the birth of my son. I don't eat a lot but it turned out that I made bad choices. I am at almost 2 kilos down since two weeks and feel better and less anxious. Cutting bread, cheese and junk food seem to do great on my body.

I find this thread disturbing. You have a perfectly ideal weight for a woman of your height. With room to spare. Why people are recommending a visit to the doctor, or hormone imbalances, or weird diet regimens is beyond me. You are not overweight, your weight is perfect.
If you want to address specific areas of your body, try some light weight training...it tones up soft areas relatively quickly and has a lot of other benefits (keeps bones strong for one).
We are born with the body and shape that we have. . | | | | | Theoretically... but I perfectly understand OP.
Theoretically, 167 cm and 60 kg for a woman is good, but what if you don't see it and feel that way...definitely everybody has an ideal weight when they felt best.

Let's assume the healthy average of bmi for the person is between 21-26 (just numbers) and the person is at 23. This person can still find the need to lose weight to reach a lower bmi in the healthy average.
Sometimes just a few kilos will make the difference to affine the body. As long as the person is still healthy, I don't see the problem.

I measure in at just over 25, depending on how tall I am on any given day, and yes, I sometimes feel the need to lose a little flab around the tummy, just so's I can fit comfortably into my 32" 501s, but no-one who's met me, least of all my doctor, would suggest that I'm overweight. OTOH if I did no exercise at all and lost all the muscle on my legs, but still weighed the same, I would indeed be a fat bastard. |

I know I was way overweight, cause you could see it pouring out of the seams of my clothes. I changed everything, and now I still have some to go.
If I see fat, I work on that area, and still maintain a healthy diet.
All these numbers and diets and whatever just adds confusion and makes the whole thing seem far more tiring, then the already tiring and hard act of losing the weight in the first place.
Just use common sense.

It also depends on your body type and whether you take steroids and/or other supplements.

You are exercising intensely 4/5 times a week consistently
You have low body fat through making healthy eating and drinking choices consistently
