You're on a 1970s-style low calorie diet. Diet foods like diet mayonnaise and diet desserts will normally have more sugar than their regular counterparts not less. And "sugar" is just a simpler carbohydrate - much of what you're eating will become the blood-sugar you're trying to avoid in minutes.

So, after thirty days of being ultra-strict, while doing a Whole30, I have to accept that I can choose between having clear skin and eating dairy or sugar. Curses. Wheat is definitely out, so now I have to test if the occasional rice is fine. It was a tough 30 days, with a lot of questions and an outright fight with my very fact resistant stepmother who refuses to let my dad eat the way I eat based on the notion that "doctors recommend eating bread, it's good for you!". Yes dear, maybe in 1985, but not now. And since my father and I have many similar traits and health tendencies, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he may benefit from a similar diet to mine. Aaanyway.
This is the weight loss thread and I lost 6 kilos in the 30 days, just brought a whole bunch of clothes to be altered - they are all baggy at the waist, I've dropped a dress size (if anyone knows a younger, tall size 46/48 woman who doesn't mind second hand clothes, some of which I shrunk out of after only wearing them twice or never wore because they were first too small and then too big, let me know, I heard too many depressing things about all the charity clothes companies to just put them in the container). But most importantly, my view of food has changed and I've become more acutely aware of just how emotional the whole food thing is. I still haven't quite overcome patterns that emerge when I'm stressed but I think I need to find a way of not being so stressed rather than beating myself up for using chocolate to soothe my nerves. Difficult task when you are cutting back on sleep to get everything done but still a goal to set. Which reminds me, I need to stop procrastiposting.

Keep the large sized clothes Kittster and just put them away. The first time I lost a lot of weight I gave all the clothes away. I regained half of the lost weight and then pulled myself together and lost 20 kgs more.
The second time I kept everything and put them away as a good reminder of a place I do not wish to return to. Now not only the scale but also the clothes are a measure: 1kg off and I just stop eating until it's gone again. Maintenance is tough, I've managed to stay within a 2 kg variable for 5 years now, so yes it is possible.
Sports is a must. Having sustained a bad injury several months ago I do find the lack of sports highly frustrating as it means severe dieting to stay the way I wish to be (I'll never be a really slim stick though even if I wish I could).

I know maybe this is not the most interesting post you've ever read , but unfortunately for me , since I arrived to Switzerland my diet changed in a way that from 60 kgs weight ( my height is 1.75 mt) I am now 71, 11 kgs more !! I've tried many things to burn fat and lose wieght , daily walkings, fitness, change of diet to no fat, no bread no fat-makers , not even sugar , drinking a lot of water and I have just lost 2 kgs , almost nothing :-( so as you can see i am quite desperate because I can't simply get rid of this "extra kgs", and even is quite shameful to post this openly I do it in order to get some advice from you in case someone over here have or had the same problem as me . I will appreciate your comments :-) | | | | |
My wife is a nutritionist and shes had great success with clients using a diet program called metabolic balance. Maybe there is someone in your area that does it. I tried it for a month to see how it works and lost 10kgs.

The healthiest way to lose weight probably is neither crash diets nor bursts of exercise. The body likes slow changes in terms of food and exercise.
I read very useful Haitham's book http://www.maximumfitness.com.au/ebook.html, and in that book he said that someone who hasn't exercised for years shouldn't rush into running miles a day or pounding the treadmill. Not only will the struggle to do so leave you feeling disheartened and demotivated, you're also far more likely to injure yourself and set your fitness levels back further.
The same goes for those who suddenly start starving themselves. Diets that severely restrict calories or the types of food allowed can lead you to be deficient in the nutrients and vitamins that your body needs.
So, my advices for you would be:
- Energy needs and weight loss
- Introduce changes gradually
- Increase your activity levels
- Reduce your calorie intake
Write down your plan, be patient and persevere and good luck!

I haven't been on EF as I moved to another country. But I did lose 7kg two years ago even though I intended to lose only 4 or 5kg. Eating had become a sort of entertainment or a source of comfort, so those extra kgs had to go. Putting on 1kg a year might sound like nothing, but after ten years, one is ten kg heavier. For a petite person, that's a lot. Besides, I didn't feel good not fitting into my old clothes anymore.
A couple of acquaintances told me they lost more than 20kg eating low carb high fat. So I thought I'd give it a shot as "eating less" never worked because I'd get too famished and food obsessed. I had a low-blood-sugar condition.
It worked! Mightily. Within four weeks, I had lost 2 to 3kg. I felt really alert, too. Not eating sugar most of the time meant vegetables started to taste good. Also, I liked meats and cheeses, butter and cream. Without an overload of carbs, my body was re-learning how to burn fat.
After two months, I had lost 5kg. And then another 2kg in another few weeks. Best of all, the hunger pangs and mood swings from a low-blood-sugar condition had vanished. I could go from a low-carb breakfast till a late light lunch without feeling famished.
I decided it was enough and readjusted my meals to re-include some natural carbs such as sweet potato and rice. In the next two years, I put back on 2kg eating almost like before. I do try not to eat too much bread and pasta. My weakness is a love of baking, ice-cream and dark chocolates.
You can take what you like from my account. Information on "low carb high fat" eating is available free on the Internet. I didn't buy any book or app, only fresh produce, good oils, some types of nuts and seeds.

Good for you Argus ! 🙂
Wish I hadn’t reread this thread though..... 😶
In my case my awful spinal injury changed my life 6 years ago and I have never been able to do sports again without so much pain.
....and at least 45 min of sports every day is the secret to true weight loss.
Sports boosts your metabolism and allows your body to burn more calories.
Without sports it’s very hard to keep weight off.
I’m rounder now, and I can no longer dance through the night.
But..... so grateful not to be in a wheelchair
Makes thoughts of back then seem frivolous now.

Hmmm, after two kids I find it amusing that I worried for these things. On a plus side - didn't gain much weight from then and I eat healthier e.g. less sugar. Still wish I could be as thin as I used to be...not that long ago.. | Quote: | | | | | I'm six years too late, but I hope you have found your solution.

Makes thoughts of back then seem frivolous now. | | | | | So sorry to hear about your spinal injury, Sky.
I thought of you recently and wondered how you were, not that I knew of the injury. Just a sense of you in general from what I've read from you on EF.
To me sports don't make a big difference because brisk walking for 45 minutes only burns a small amount of calories for me. However, I agree it might keep up the metabolism, but then again that makes me hungrier.
Eating LCHF (low carb, high fat) kept me feeling satiated, so that helped a lot in keeping my daily calories lower.
Scientists have found that diet/nutrition plays a bigger role than exercise in weight loss and control. But of course both are important for our general health.
Sure hope you are as happy and healthy as can be, Sky. Missed you.

Congrats, argus! Have heard of quite a few people who had success with this diet. | | | | | Thank you, Greenmount. Yes, certain things look much less important in retrospect. I for one am glad hormones no longer dictate some of my actions.
If you really want to be as slim as before, you could still do it though. It takes some effort but it's not difficult. Imagine my delight when I fit back into my wedding cheongsam.

How are your dogs and how many now?
Ours is almost 11 and has gone rather grey. I'll change my profile pic if possible.

Two pieces of toast ( with cheese/jam ) in the morning with tea. Lunch Buttermilk( from Migros ). Dinner in moderation. No meat . Or go to a tropical land and sweat it out!

Fitness is like a relationship. You can't cheat and expect it to work.
Same with weight loss. If you don't lose weight, you are either doing something wrong or you are cheating.
