Autumn mountain bikers?

Hi there, I just moved to Zurich with my husband. We are both English but have spent the last 3 years in Vancouver where we caught the mountain biking bug!

Just wondering if there was anyone out there who would be interested in meeting up for a weekend ride before the weather turns bad. Our bikes arrived last week so we can't wait to go for a spin. We will probably try out Uetliberg this weekend if its not pouring with rain.

I tried some of the meetup groups but undrstandably the events seem to have tapered off into autumn. So if anyone can point me in the direction of a group or wants to join/show us where to go we would really appreciate it!

Thanks

Re: Autumn mountain bikers?

Why not "suggest" a ride on the Swiss Alpine Adventure meetup group.

Autumn is my favorite time to ride my bike. There is something magical about blazing down a trail covered in leaves. I too suggest the SAA group, they do winter activiteis as well. My suggestion is to buy a hiking trail map or a garmin then head out to the alps and have a blast. A pleathora of great trails awaits you there.

Thanks for your replies. I didn't realize I could suggest rides on Swiss Alpine Adventure. Maybe I will give that a go. Thanks!

They have very nice bike trails (for both mountain bike, or just biking).

Check this website:

All routes have numbers and it's quiet easy to follow

Hope this helps :)

Dave (from SAA) is always thankful if someone else organizes a ride.
I think ideally, you would have ridden the suggested trail before, so you can actually "lead" a group.

In your area, I would try the local skiing-club.
They usually do mountain-biking in the summer.
But if you organize rides in Wallis, I'm sure you will have lot's of people to join from the rest of CH.
;-)

You should announce it on the SAA meetup (or in their meetup-forum).
Few people are going to see it here.

You've got some brilliant trails around Visp. A friend of mine is always raving about them. I've not gotten to ride too much down there yet.

I've heard that Dave from SAA has been doing a lot of exploring down there too. Maybe get in touch with him and see if he knows anyone riding down that way.

Let's not talk too much about the trails around Brig or Visp, Not worth it IMO. Trails around Aargau are much better. :msnzip:
Actually Switzerland is littered with great trails everywhere, one just needs a topo map to pick out which ones are worth riding or not.

I would love to go with you sometime. I am getting ready to go back to the states for a few weeks and if the weather holds up as it has, we could take a ride after Nov. 15th. I'll check in when I am back.
