Does anyone have any ideas on places to go which meet the following criteria:

Accessible by train and within 2 hours of Zurich HB
Opportunity to snow shoe or cross country ski (beginner level) and hire equipment
Plenty of snow (and blue skies if poss !) this week - ie 17 March

Or is raining everywhere at the moment?!

Any suggestions gratefully received.

If I could only control the weather I could help you. You need to find a resort that is as high as possible, Arosa might have good snow still but that is more than 2 hours.

Klosters has snow at the moment - it takes 1.5 hours in the car from here and a little bit longer on the train. If you are a beginner head over to Madrisa (get off the train at Klosters Dorf). There is a hire shop before you cross over the road to get to the cable car.

Sorry - you want cross country skiing - get off the train at Klosters Platz - there are loads of hire shops.. wander down to the sportzentrum and that is where some of the cross country tracks start

My fiance and I were in Davos two weekends ago and the cross-country trails we saw were ok. (There are quite a few!) We didn't actually ski ourselves, but met lots of folks who were. The nice thing was that they were walking distance from the hotel, so we took our dog Lili along. ...

Klosters (right next door) is also nice I hear, but don't have any first-hand knowledge of the trails... Hope you have a nice time, wherever you go!

Both good snow shoe walking Braunwald has a good sledge run. both are in Glarnerland just over 1 hour by train.
