Online Bike store in CH?

Hi all,

I'm looking to find online stores in CH that sell cycling essentials such as cables, lube, brake pads, tubes, and general everyday kit, plus quality clothing as well, and all at reasonable prices... I buy my gear in the UK or US when I can but any savings made from shipping from overseas get swallowed up by the Swiss Post charges at this end...

Any suggestions?

Re: Online Bike store in CH?

Try www.biker-boarder.de. It's a Germany-based shop, but they deliver free to Switzerland.

This is quite off-topic, but I just can't help myself. My OH orders basic bike stuff from the aforementioned Bikester, apparently with good experiences since he keeps using them. I always look forward to a new package from them, since their bubble wrap / actual content ratio is astronomical.

Below is an example of what he bought, and what was the size of the box it was delivered in. The bubble wrap has been removed for a better view.

Re: Online Bike store in CH?

I use these the most:

Swiss based, generally very good prices, can rival ChainReaction on many things. Quick delivery with invoice (no pre-payment required). Put a big order in and get a % discount on your next.
http://bike-import.ch/

Based in Germany, prices shown inc Swiss MWST (without German), which is then discounted on checkout and you pay the MWST to DHL on delivery, without another admin charge. Quite a big range.
https://www.bike-discount.de/

Massive range, good pricing, UK based, they remove UK VAT, Swiss MWST payable here + usual admin charge.

Re: Online Bike store in CH?

I can second bikester and bike-discount.de

Bikester is the CH version of fahrrad.de so if you're tripping over to DE to pick up other stuff, it's maybe worth comparing prices.

bike-discount has exceptionally fast postage (usually 2 days end to end) and great prices. However it pays to order big to cover the postage, and somehow their import charges seem very reasonable.

If you're looking for complete bikes, there's always wiggle.co.uk of course.

Plus I've just found www.tomsbikecorner.de.

Very nice guy to deal with (in English) and some of the best prices for larger components, (I bought Enve road wheels and bars at 30% under CH prices) that i have seen anywhere, including in the US. I can highly recommend Tom.

One more for luck:

Just ordered from Rosebikes and nothing extra to pay on arrival and best price I had seen anywhere on a Garmin 810:

I second this. We have purchased 2 pairs of skis from them. Very good service, fast shipment, no need to pay German VAT and Swiss VAT plus handling fee on custom clearance were very reasonable!

Just curious where to take Mountain bike for lubrication, ball bearing replacement etc in Zurich? Is there any do it yourself manual available?

Re: Online Bike store in CH?

Germany-based Bike24.de is great. Vast selection, good returning policy, shipping to CH with DHL at 15 Euro per package. So, order big.
Not too big though: Whereas DHL only charges you the Swiss VAT on top of the invoice amount, DPD, their shipping company for bigger and heavy items like a bicycle work stand, will charge you an additional 50 CHF for the customs handling. So, great shop, but avoid bulky and heavy items.

You could also check out http://www.bike-discount.de/ - their pricing is pretty keen, VAT removed for CH shipments.

Re: Online Bike store in CH?

I had great experiences with Wiggle and RoseVersand.

Wiggle: great selection, often nice offers and they ship Tax and Postage free at CHF 60 which means no VAT and charges by the Post. I often make multiple shipments of parts up 60 and twice make a big purchase and absorbed the additional cost.

RoseVersand: Bought my new bike last year here. Great website to configure own bike based on your measurements. Takes a couple of weeks to get it delivered as they put together especially. I believe they charge 1% on top of 8% Swiss VAT to cover all handling cost.

Both have great technical support on-line and by phone.

I did try to order a bike for my son on www.biker-boarder.de. The site said 3-5 days delivery. I double checked by phone and the said that the bike was in stock at Scott and with shipment to Switzerland would take 7 days. Contacted them after 7 days by email and their response was that it would take 9 days. After 10 days I finally got a email that the bike not in stock and delivery would take 2 months.
That was the first and also the last time I would use them. So cautious when ordering here.

Re: Online Bike store in CH?

Bikester - http://www.bikester.ch/ hands down:

1. Massive choice
2. You won't be surprised by import tax like when buying from 'Chain Reaction'.
3. They have excellent offers going on almost constantly (different assortments naturally.
4. Free shipping above 100 CHF
5. They have good sort of welcome goodies - when I was buying from them recently for 103 CHF - my price was reduced to 93 (10 CHF Gutschein) and I also received 20 CHF Coop Gutschein

Now, word of warning regarding ever popular 'Chain Reaction'. They do charge VAT regardless of their statement on their website, which says that when importing to Switzerland you will pay duty tax if applicable, but the price will be reduced by VAT. It didn't happen in my case, so I was charged VAT and then got import tax duty on top of that, and suddenly fairly good deal... was no more.
When I asked them to reimbursed my account with the amount for the VAT, they responded with legally correct corporate bs.:
'At CRC our cost to serve differs from market to market. When setting the price of items we must take in all the factors that govern the cost.' blah, blah, blah.
Well, thanks for that. Seems that Chain Reaction is no more, what it used to be.

Re: Online Bike store in CH?

Bikester looks good for a local site, thanks. Though the wheels I want are half the price on CRC. (offer price not RRP) so for big ticket stuff still worth importing.

and if you change the language from German to English and the currency from CHF to GBP on CRC it becomes even cheap.

Re: Online Bike store in CH?

Did you check veloplus.ch ?
It's Swiss and a bit expensive but sometimes they have good discounts.
I choose it since I live in Basel and I like to check their catalog and pick up the things in the store.
By the way, they have a place to repair the bikes yourself, full of tools, bike stands, chain oils, etc.

They don't, it's pretty easy to confirm, just switch your location when looking at an item, price changes.
There are exceptions though, as not all items are VAT applicable to the same level in the UK, e.g. helmets and some other protection are VAT exempt (or very low VAT), so there is no / little VAT to remove.

What they don't do as well is others is manage the way items are shipped. With CRC you usually get the standard SwissPost invoice for MWST + admin charges. With bike-discount.de you just pay the MWST, no admin.
