dirt trails accessible from Geneva?

I love riding my mountain bike on dirt trails, nothing too crazy in terms of downhill, and I was wondering if I was living in Geneva how easy is it to find these type of trails and get out of the city without a car?

IE, if I am living in city center, can I ride my bike a mile and hit dirt trails leading out into the woods and moutains?

I've scoured these forums and the net for maps showing trails outside of Geneva but no such luck. A few people referenced a map at a bike shop but I haven't moved to Geneva yet so couldn't get one.

Thanks!

Yes, miles and miles- especially over the Jura. Look up Velo VTT (vélo tout terrain = mountain biking).

Awesome, thank you so much, I searched for so long and couldn't find anything in English. I lived in freiburg Germany for a few months so I knew up there it was like trail heaven

Anyone using fat bikes in Swtizerland at all in the winter?

Yes, I've seen a few around here in Engelberg, just this season, mostly on sledge/walking tracks. Couple of the shops had them for rent as well.

Re: dirt trails accessible from Geneva?

My students have built their own long track around St. Cergue, authorised by the local municipality. I don't know where exactly but if you call local sports/jeunesse authorities, they will tell you. By how tired they get to the classroom, yes, that trail is busy in the winter season. All seasons, snow, rain or hails.

Forget it, there is no dirt on Swiss mountain trails.
