Re: Anyone use a Fitbit or similar modern activity tracker?

You have to wonder how old the study is though, the basis peak was pulled of the market about a year ago do to product safety issues, unfortunately it also seemed to kill the company which was a shame as the Basis was one of the better fitness trackers.

Well, studies can take a long time. This one took 2 years.

http://www.bbc.com/news/health-37417018

The Basis Peak wasn't recalled until August/September 2016 and users could access their data right up to 31st December.

Not sure they needed a study. I wrote that earlier in the thread but was put down by Richdog and his trend-setting chums.

I don't expect I'll get an apology though....

Me neither really. But these days everything has to be digital and linked to your phone. Myself I use a good old fashioned pedometer and just try and eat the right kinds of food.

I have a Fitbit and whilst I'm not billynomates with regard to 'Friends' on the App, it would be very nice to have some friends' who live and obviously hike/run in Switzerland for the odd challenge day or week. Any takers?

Re: Anyone use a Fitbit or similar modern activity tracker?

I am using Garmin Vivoactive HR for like 2 weeks now.
Its quite OK and for many function that it has, the price also not that expensive. About CHF 180 today.. Use it to track my bike activities.
I like it because i dont have to charge it every 2 days, the battery last for more than 10 days. By using GPS, theorically it can last 13 hours. But i bike mostly under 3 hours . Oh, that is with constant heart rate monitor on!

I had Microsoft Band 2 before, looks great, but the it does not last long .

A fitbit doesn't give you magical motivation if you are overweight, but at least it does make you more aware of your activity. The rest is up to the individual.

My POS Fitbit broke and couldn't be fixed, so I am now awaiting the Xiaomi Mi Band 3 which costs less than 30chf and has all the features of the high-end Fitbits http://www.xiaomimi6phone.com/xiaomi...e-date-rumors/

I do loads of exercise and track it all on my Apple Watch, but ideally i need some kind of wrist tazer that shocks me every time I try to open a bag of crisps.

Re: Anyone use a Fitbit or similar modern activity tracker?

For a daily activity tracker, I find Fitbit a great solution... Helps reminding you to stay on your daily target if you haven't moved enought. But the lack of features is a disgrace... As I'm becoming more and more of a cyclist, Fitbit gets useless as hell. Strava on the otherside is a great alternative (but not for a daily track basis)

Xiaomi all the way for me. Version 1 lasts for 40+ days, version 2 is a bit more gimmicky but still mostly basics. Actually I do have a Xiaomi 2 spare (new, still in package) - anyone interested?

Re: Anyone use a Fitbit or similar modern activity tracker?

My old fitbit charge HR that my wife bought me in June 2015 died slowly.

1st the strap clasp broke, finally it stopped charging.

Irritated, I threw it away and vowed never to buy another Fitbit charge HR.

My wife didn't get the memo and bought me a Charge 2 last week..

Guess she thinks I'm big-boned, or something.

Re: Anyone use a Fitbit or similar modern activity tracker?

I've got the waterproof Fitbit Flex 2 and after much twiddling, it still doesn't record my lake swims correctly. It's also dropped about a 1,000 steps off the walk to Migros and back.

Had it been within warranty you would have gotten a free replacement, no questions asked. One of the best things about Fitbit is their customer service.

Re: Anyone use a Fitbit or similar modern activity tracker?

I now use my Apple Watch to track my moves, and I find it quite efficient. I also like the hourly reminders to get up and move a bit.

I'll test it at the pool for the first time today (I've got the série 2), so I'll see how it tracks swimming.

Re: Anyone use a Fitbit or similar modern activity tracker?

Well since I made this thread I tried a few brands and ultimately have settled on Garmin. I think they have overall the best ecosystem for people who are into sports, especially of the mountain variety, with lots of good activity/sleep tracking and meaningful stats like Body Battery which is now pretty famous for its accuracy.

I have a more discreet fitness band for daily wear/sleep tracking and a Garmin Fenix 6S Pro for when I am in the mountains etc. I LOVE the fact I can install detailed maps and have hiking/snowshoe navigation on the Fenix 6S Pro, it is a lifesaver and also has amazing battery life.

Re: Anyone use a Fitbit or similar modern activity tracker?

Gees that's an expensive bit of kit. Mind you, I've seen similar for well over 1,000 CHF.

Bought my OH the Samsung Galaxy 46mm watch for Christmas and he's very happy with it, just in case anyone's looking for a cheaper option. Also looking to upgrade my old fitbit and trying to decide between the Charger 3, Versa II and Versa Lite, but have read that the Versa's aren't suitable for swimming.

I wear my Versa for swimming and have done since I got it a couple of years ago. Counts the laps really well, compared to the SwimPro I had before.

Crikey, I'm not sure. I got it two years ago so I'm guessing it's the Versa 2. Versa Lite is relatively new, right?
