Canyon purecycling online bike order

Hello Everyone,

Does anyone have experience with buying a bike from canyon (German Manufaturer) here in switzerland?
you have to order it over https://www.purecycling.ch/ and they ship it to you.

I am planning to order a Endurance road bike from them, but have some concerns.

1. Will i be charged 8% VAT from swiss customs.
2. How easy is it to assemble it - from youtube videos looks very simple.$
3. If you had bought it already in the past, then can you share some feedback based on your experience.

Your options

a) Order from PureCycling you get your pick from a subset of the Canyon brand, but priced, branded (i.e. not as Canyon) for Switzerland and delivered to your home.

b) Order from Canyon.de and you can choose from a wider range (with Canyon branding), pay in EUR, have it delivered to the German border, claim back the German VAT (19 % Mwst) and pay the Swiss (8%) as you bring it in.

I took option b) because the combination I wanted was not available from PureCycling.

It will be very easy to assemble! I have done it for both mine and my wife's bike which I bought from Rose.de, which is similar to Canyon. The only thing you need to make sure you have is a torque wrench as for any carbon bike you should make sure you are not over-tightening the compenents.

The other thing to be aware of is, if you buy it though pure cycling then you relationship is with the swiss company, which can be an issue if you move a county and encounter an issue as you would need to send it back to Switzerland. Where as if you buy it direct from Canyon DE and say moved to England you could then send it back to Canyon UK because it's all the same company.

FYI, torque wrench was included with my bike from canyon.de

Hi Thanks a lot for your valuable comments.

According to pure-cycling the torque wrench will also be supplied.

I ordered the Endurance CF 9.0 from purecycling.ch, sad thing is i get it only by end of July if i would rather go for German Delivery to the border from Canyon then i could have it in 2 days :)

Price wise its more or less no difference, but having it delivered to my home is more convenient.

What i still could not figure out is that, if you buy a product in Switzerland you get 2 years warranty but in Germany its only one. Does that mean since I order it from Purecycling.ch am I entitled for 2 years of waranty?

Re: Canyon purecycling online bike order

Hello everyone,

I want to share my BAD experience ordering a bycicle with Purecycling (Canyon in Switzerland).

I've ordered a new bicycle on May 2016.

I've got confirmation email and shipment for July 11th (a little bit late but ok, since I have planned a bike trip on the 22nd).

in the middle of June I've asked Purecycling using the web chat if everything was ok and they told me that they had an issue with my credit card (3 weeks after the email with order confirmation). I had to wait 5 min online and they fixed this issue by themselves (mmm...very strange, but ok).

They also confirmed that the shipment date would not change because we had enough time.

On July the 12th I've contacted them again because I didn't receive any email and they told me that the bicycle was not still produced, and there was a delay.... what??? I had to ask them twice how it was to realize that THEY had a problem...very good customer care.

OK the customer care offered me some extra gadgets for free to include in the order and I reminded them that I have planned this bike trip 10 days later.

when I contacted again 10 days later they told me that the REAL FINAL SURE CONFIRMED date was August the 5th and they couldn't change it.
I will no comment it...

Finally... on August the 5th... guess what?

I wrote them again... and... new forecast was August 15th.

So I cancelled my order, I've lost almost 3 months, I had to rent a bicycle for my trip and that's it.

I bought my MBT in Switzerland where in the final prices there is service for 1 year and local support.

Purecycling is really UNRELIABLE, they cannot commit to any forecast date and worst of anything else is that customer needs to ask them what's going on... no communication at all. they really don't care.

very bad experience.

so if you plan to buy a bicycle but you don't care about the delivery date in this year or next year... maybe you will get it... MAYBE... :)

I hope it will be helpful for someone else
regards
Berni

Unfortunately they cyclically go through these phases where they have some kind of success-bike which everyone wants and then their whole order processing and assembly flow goes haywire.
Happy owner of a Specialized E29 now, which I purch'd because I was getting zero feedback from Germany as to a replacement frame.
Shame 'cos the products are indeed interesting and well designed...

I'd like to share my experience and want to share how to buy canyon bicycle from Germany.

Last week I ordered canyon and finally I could get mine.

Even there is a website which is valid for Switzerland (purecycling), some sort of bicycle (in my case, endurace slx 8.0) is not available at that site. So if you really want to buy the canyon with specific model, then only option is order and deliver to german boarder.

The thing what I have done was, order the bike from website and sent it to the warehouse (like http://www.europaketshop.ch). I recommend to send bicycle to Waldshut since the warehouse location is very close to custom office (both for Germany and Swiss).

Then go to the german custom office with your bill (to send your bicycle to this location, you should have to write down german address but it is okay. I talked with officer and they accept hand-written address on top of billing paper. So, just remove pre-exisiting written address and change it to your swiss address) and get a stamp.

Next thing is, go to swiss custom office, claim swiss tax which is 8%.

Now the most important step is, tax refund.

I was little bit confused about this procedure but the answer is, contact with canyon (chat system at canyon website is enough) and send original document (billing paper with stamps) to canyon. Then as soon as they receive this, they will give money back to you.

Hope more people can ride with canyon with this post.

As far as I know there are 2 Canyons... one is Swiss and the other is American... and there are issues for the American brand to be sold over here, so I guess that would make importing difficult.

Getting the bike over the border probably makes more sense, as euro prices are usually cheaper even with 20% VAT in my opinion.

My bike is a Canyon from the swiss company :) bought in my local shop, at a price that would make a european's eyes water :msntongue:

It is actually German, not American. And btw, the names is where similarities ends, German Canyon is way different league than Swiss... ;)

Do you use a border delivery service (Mandy Klein or similar?) or is there an actual border delivery address??
How do you get the appropriate tax refund form if it's being delivered to a German address?

I used http://www.europaketshop.ch/. It was a breeze. I ordered a bike from Canyon on Thursday afternoon, had a message on Friday telling me they'd shipped it, and an email first thing on Saturday from Europaketshop telling me the bike had arrived (at their Waldshut branch). I drove to Waldshut and collected it. The whole thing, from order to collection, took less than 48 hours.

At Waldshut, they also are happy to allow you to unpack it there and then and dump the cardboard. This was welcome, as I could then get the thing in my normal saloon car. Boxed up, it wouldn't have fitted. Remember to remove the documentation from the outside of the box before discarding! (Remember to tell Canyon it's for Swiss import, and they'll give you paperwork for both the German and Swiss customs).

After collection, I drove about 100 metres to the German customs office to get my paperwork stamped, and then drove across the border where I parked and paid my Swiss tax -- about 75 CHFs.

It was incredibly easy and quick.

Being a totally unpractical person, I didn't find assembly quick or easy. I had to look at a few YouTube videos and read the relevant part of the manual a few times. Even then, I'm not certain I have everything adjusted properly, so I intend to take it to a local bike store to be checked over.

I ordered mine (Spectral AL 8.0 EX IIRC) late Autumn last year via the Swiss arm (purecycling.ch) - arrived after a couple of weeks in a huge and very sturdy cardboard box, took me about 90 mins in all to assemble but I was going carefully and that also included multiple tuning adjustments for the front and rear suspensions. It's not difficult - but depending what exactly you order you might end up with a lot of manuals, some of which overlap each other.

No complaints - great bike that I'm really enjoying - it even garners quite a few admiring glances from fellow cyclists which is nice (don't get that with my car !).

Curious those who do daily commuting on these, how do you protect your cycles? I see theft rate is quite high in Switzerland.

Quick update on Canyon and Pure Cycling and my experience:

Ordered a bike from Bike and Boarder, whom I had used previously. Great deal on a 2017 bike. After 3 weeks and several calls I got an email saying that they can't complete the order because of lack of stock. I understand how this can happen, but not after 3 weeks!

I had my eye on a Canyon Spectral 8.0, which has rave reviews and won some kind of bike of the year, but I chose the one from Bike and Boarder as the discount from RRP was too great to pass up. When that fell through I decided to go for the Canyon from 'Pure Cycling'. The 8.0 was now only available in July...damn... so I decided to throw some more cash at my problem and ordered the 9.0, which was 'in stock' (Ab Lager)

Ordered on the Monday and on Thursday I was notified that it was on the way. On Friday (today) UPS attempted delivery, but I was not at home. (I can't confirm this for sure, but I think that the delivery address must be the billing address. Regardless, I didn't want my reception at work to have to accept a bike!)

Online I was able to choose to go pick up the bike from UPS, which I'll do next week.

One thing I was panicking about was the tax/customs/charges etc that I would need to pay UPS. On the slip I received in the postbox, it indicates CHF301, on a CHF3.5K bike! Pleasantly surprised!

So far so good. Next post: Can you really put together a Canyon Spectral 9.0 in 10 minutes?

For a bicycle of this sort of quality and potential fragility (you don't want somebody banging into it), I wouldn't leave it outside at all (except for short trips into shops).

I commute on a similar bike to a Canyon (some fancy Italian thing) and carry it up the six flights of stairs to the office (try to run up actually, cyclocross-style). Basically, it's free cross-training. What's not to like?

Probably, but would you want to ride it?

Well, in theory, it's fitting the handlebars and the seatpost and then popping the wheels on.

We'll see, but I'll update the tens of thousands who are likely following this very closely.
