Quality Bike hire in Zurich

Hi

I'm not a resident but a regular visitor to your host country during which time I've enjoyed cycling over a number of the high passes that don't get the recognition that they might were they across the border in France (or Italy).

My wife and I are coming across again in July but the ever increasing restrictions on flying with bikes are making me nervous and it may be necessary to leave our bikes back over here in Scotland. If we're left sans-velo in Zurich and want to hire some decent roadbikes at short notice, what are our options?

Any advice would be most gratefully received.
Cheers
Malcolm

Re: Quality Bike hire in Zurich

There's the option of renting bikes at the train station. Check out the SBB.ch site for more info.

http://www.rentabike.ch rent from stations, you can get a basic touring bike, mountain or even a tandem. If you want something a bit more high spec, Tempo Sport in Thalwil (10mins on the train from Zurich) have lots of high end road bikes they might lend you (at a price!) http://www.tempo-sport.ch/uploads/me...etung_2008.pdf

Renting a bicycle in Zurich

Hi! I'm from the U.S. and I'll be in Zurich August 19-25 and want to rent a road bike for a couple of those days. I have been unable to find out if anything is available. I want to use it to ride down to Schwyz & back and/or perhaps over to Liechtenstein & back while I'm there. I am a very experienced rider & have everything I will need except a bike. I only do road riding & can make either of the trips I am considering in a day. If anyone knows where I might be able to locate a good bike, please respond. I'm very much looking forward to my trip, but it is driving me crazy trying to find a bike to use. I saw somewhere that The Bike Store in Altstetten might rent road bikes; does anyone know if that is true or not. I have not been able to contact them myself.

Thanks,

RoadRider

You should also consider the idea of doing a one-way ride and taking the train back. I don't mean to half the distance, I'm talking about doing the same distance, but seeing an even larger part of the country. You may not be used to being able to do this so easily in Ohio, but here it is extremely straightforward with frequent trains, and just a 10 CHF surcharge for a day-pass for the bike if you have any sort of Swiss travel-pass for yourself or 15 CHF if you don't have a pass.

Has anyone used the rent-a-bike service?

I've got someone coming over and wanted to rent them a bike for the evening. Is it possible to leave the bike at the station after a night out?

Re: Quality Bike hire in Zurich

I could be able to rent high quality bikes in Zürich

I have a 50cm Trek 5200 and a 58cm Madone 5.5 with full triple Ultegra that I would be selling. Great for a couple for example ( man and woman bike )

I guess the best moment to sell them would be at the beginning of next year's season and not now that we are past the middle of the summer.

So if somebody is looking to rent a high quality road bike I could provide that service.

If someone would want to buy them also I am open for offers.

I am still not sure about the price but the security conditions are clear.

I do have an accident insurance that covers my bikes in case of something happens, only excluding the cases where the bike is used for racing or competition. I have to make sure if this covers also riders others than me.

In any case :

1. You should have a liability insurance ( Civil Responsability ) and sign me a document assuming responsability for all damages that could happen to the bike during the hire period.

2. If you don't have the RC because you are visiting, I could rent it to you if you make a warranty deposit that would be refunded when you return the bike in good condition.

Remember those are Carbon Fiber bikes and bikes I don't ride. I know they are accident free so I can guarantee that.

But, if you crash with the bike and you hid that fact to me to save yourself problems, you could be putting into risk the next rider that could rent the bikes or the probable next owner. It is much better to declare it and let the insurance take care of the problem.

This is still on the "thinking to" phase, I guess it is better to put them for rent and then service some people, specially the EFers, than just to be on my cellar waiting to be sold.

If you have advice to give me about this ( even if you want to convince me not to do it ). Please send me a PM or post here your thoughts.
