M,

That sounds like fun to me. Never dived a river before and certainly have never dived with catfish and otters! 20m vis? Jeez, I count myself lucky if I can see my hand at Stoney and Capers!

Will drop you a PM in the new year, hopefully Father Christmas will have dropped off a new Santi heated vest by then

Cheers!

Rich
Never did capers... too far 'north' for me... I lived 10 mins from Wraysbury... so spent my weekends there in winter, and near Southampton in summer. Stoney occasionally, and NDAC when I needed to do the tec stuff.

Actually, stoney and wraysbury both have some pretty good vis if you go on a Wednesday or Thursday... I remember sitting on the Stanegarth and being able to see the ripple of the surface. That's a good 20m or so...

M.

Re: "Free" Scuba Diving in Zurich

Viz at Stoney has been somewhat 'challenging' of late, not sure why. A few years back I remember it to be so much better, maybe old age is playing tricks with my memory. Last time, we bimbled around the shelf to the galleon then descended with a plan to hit the Stanegarth - completely missed it and ended up hitting the bus

Have been meaning to go to NDAC for ever, but always opted for the shorter journeys!

Me too... but in the new year...

As for the heated vest, let me know how you get one with it... been considering one for a while now!

Reviving this as the weather improves...

So I got in touch with a pool, and they're willing to rent out the pool for 160chf per 2-hour session.

I have two people wanting to learn to dive, which without a DM is what I feel comfortable with - but if anyone wants to share the pool (divers of course) we can split the costs?

Re: "Free" Scuba Diving in Zurich

While I wouldn't be too interested in hiring the pool to have a bimble around, I would be interested in DM-ing if you ever felt the urge to take on more students. Maybe that's one for the future as you will need to see me in action and or talk to my club in the UK first.

I don't have my kit over here as I'm still living in limbo. Might bring it over after Easter and get wet finally!

You might like to specify in which area the pool is, as that could influence others' decisions.

Never tried it. Seems to be more focused on these strange freediver types!
I wouldn't mind having a go though, just to say that I've been there and got the t-shirt!

We are not strange, itīs just that we think breathing air is overrated.

If you're just interested in diving, a group of us go every Tuesday evening in/around Zurich (it's run by one of the dive schools in ZH, but it's totally free and they're friendly).

Anything below 18m of so in Lake Zurich is pretty much a night dive, so some getting used to (if you haven't done cold freshwater before) is needed. When my friends from warmer countries visited the UK, we would start at shallower dives. There's also a different range of things to see from tropical water... not that many fish (but there still are fish), and oddly, in laze Zurich at least, not many wrecks sunk specifically for divers...

I'm interested - can you provide more details?

We're actually on hiatus for a bit - on the basis that no-one was showing up It's not me organising, the group is organised one of the guys at a dive shop (scuba viva) - there's a facebook page. I can post here next time it's up again.

That said, I'm probably going on Saturday as I've heard that the lake has started warming up (12c at the surface apparently).

There's two - the 160/2hrs is Altstetten (but they have some set dates/times).

Oerlikon is more regular (can go any evening after they close), but more expensive.

I'm probably booking near the the end of April given the Easter break...
