Re: iHerb shipping and import taxes

Not a tax issue, but a whey protein powder item was confiscated from my order at Zurich airport by the "Border Veterinary Office for postal consignments" due to the limitation of animal products from third countries

All other items were in the box, and a one sheet notice explaining that they removed 1,54kg of whey protein was added.

I guess I am out of the product and the money I guess I should be happy I am not being charged for their work

Anyone had anything like this? I have 10 days to appeal, but not sure it is worth the effort as the whey protein is an animal product.

Re: iHerb shipping and import taxes

I ordered some stuff (medicines and shampoos, soaps, etc.) from iherb.com for the first time a few weeks ago, and I was amazed at how little they charged for shipping. Only $9 for shipping on an order of about $100 for about 10 different products. I also didn't have to pay any customs when it arrived. So happy to now have a nice, cheap place to order my melatonin gummies, etc. (Still wondering why you can't buy melatonin here in Switzerland).

That went through here? Tried it in Germany once and of course that package was confiscated.....

Seems the Swiss are allowing much more than the German customs, will give it a try again here.

Re: iHerb shipping and import taxes

Happy New Year.

Just bumping this thread in view of the new VAT rules in CH since 1.1.19.

iHerb (https://www.iherb.com/) seems to be taking these in their stride and will now bills Swiss VAT at 3.5% on supplements... so its still going to work out cheaper than almost all local suppliers...

Remember that duty may still be charged on shipments with a gross weight over 5kg under the tare (weight based) duty system.

Happy supplementing!
