How good is the skiing right now!?

Ok i know some places like glaciers you can ski all year.. But around here, it's amazing .. I've had near 10 sessions already mostly on the Jura, 30 mins from my house.

Keep it coming!

Re: How good is the skiing right now!?

Jura resorts have brilliant conditions at the moment- for the first time in December for quite a while. Which is your favourite?

Ours is Métabief/Mt d'Or - and also Robella and St Croix/Les Rasses.
xcountry is fabulous at the mo too- all along the GTJ (Grande Traversée du Jura, from Geneva to Basle). Enjoy

Re: How good is the skiing right now!?

Just came back from Sörenberg resort with 80cm of snow. Excellent conditions but plenty of people were on the slopes today. Pretty much everywhere near Lucern is good right now.

I'm afraid all that lovely powder will have the texture and skiability of cold porridge tomorrow. Rain coming up to about 2,000m. Even higher in the west.

Our favourite famiy resort for 40+ years.

Do you ski from Tracouet or Super Nendaz/Siviez?

Re: How good is the skiing right now!?

Tracouet, yes I really like this area and we've been coming here for the past 7 winters. Think we should check out some other ski stations next year but we're quite content with everything available in Haute-Nendaz. Really nice atmosphere, plenty of good food, nice thermal baths and plenty to ski or randonnée

Re: How good is the skiing right now!?

I live in the foothills of the Jura near Romainmôtier and there's lots of snow at the moment, it's a winter wonderland. I can highly recommend Métabief today although it might be busy? We parked at the Télésiège in Jougne on the Route de Vallorbe, just after the Douane.

I just came back from a couple of days in Ebnat-Kappel. The skiing looked good and they are getting more snow currently.

I’m going to Balmberg this afternoon for few runs. It’s only 36km away from us and cost only CHF25 after 13h00.

I've just been going to La Faucile recently.. It's so kid friendly and so nearby. My youngest goes in the ski school and my 7 year old is quite able to ski all of the slopes there from the top right down to Mijoux.

If I'm going alone my favourite within an hour or so drive is Leysin.. Dunno why, I just really like it there.

I, too, love Leysin. We spent a week there last year and had a fantastic time. Today we are all off for a week in La Tzoumaz (Verbier) and I wish we had booked Leysin instead.

Re: How good is the skiing right now!?

La Tsoumaz is great. Last few years we have rented in Thyon 2000. The 4 Valleys without the crowds and not too many Hooray Henries.

Barca, is ever you don't want to drive all the way to Nendaz - go up to Torgon, the first resort of the Portes du Soleil- exactly opposite to Leysin. Don't go all the way to Torgon, but turn right before the resort, up to the huge car-park at Plan de Croix. You then have the choice of taking the t-bar, down, another t-bar, to the top of Chapelle d'Abondance (F) great restaurant at top, and very wide piste, great for those big power turns- or to the left with the quad chairs to Tour de Don- and on to Châtel and Super Châtel, or down to Morgins. There is a café-restaurant at Plan-de-Croix, and als at the top of quad chair at Tour de Don.

It's going to be raining upto 2000m today so the entire Portes du Soleil will not be that good until new snow & cold weather prevails.

Re: How good is the skiing right now!?

Sadly, that is true. Same would apply to Leysin though. Conditions were perfect in the Jura mountain resorts, both on NE and VD side - great powder- but all gone soggy now.

No skied last year because of knee replacement - was hoping to have a go next week- to see how it is. I need a sunny powder day to try (2nd replacement early March - so see how it goes).

Re: How good is the skiing right now!?

We skied four days out of the last six in Super Chatel and Pré-la-Joux and it was the best conditions we have had in 6 years. We have over a meter of snow on our terrace at 1260 meters.

Today, however, is gross and rainy so we went down to Thonon to go shopping. It is starting to freeze back up so the wet roads will be treacherous tonight. I imagine skiing tomorrow is going to be like a sheet of ice.
