@fatmanfilms, I'd like to encourage you to use as much or as little medication as you feel you need. It is your accident and your pain and your recovery process.

Unfortunately, those one cares about, be it partner or friend, are often in their own process of worry about the accident and its consequences. As tempting (and kind) as it is of you to want to protect them, please don't let yourself be persuaded (by others or by your own concern for them) to take medication in order to avoid frightening someone else.

I mention this because a nurse once pointed that out to me. She said, rather briskly: "If you are in pain, you should be taking the medication you need. If they are worried, then maybe they should be taking their own medication. Keep those two separate."
When I was released from the hospital this was my maximum daily medication.

4 X 1000mg Paracetamol
2 x 100mg Tramadol
4 x 50mg Tramadol
2 x 100mg Ketoprofen
1 x Inexium 20mg
3 x Valium 5mg
4 x Morphine 10mg

I still have 80 x morphine 10mg & 24 x Tramadol 50mg & 4 x 1000mg Paracetomal.

I suspect the Valium was intended for my wife

If you could stand for a while on the street corner, you could make a few bob out of the left-overs

After knee replacement last week- surgeon sent me home with ONE box of Dafalgan!

I had panadol, voltaren, omeprazole and some anti thrombosis thing. Just down to the panadol and anti thrombosis med.

However, I suspect that I’d have something a bit stronger if my pain was not resolved.

Yep. Inexium, omeprazole are all pretty much the same.

Re: FMF broken back in minor ski fall

of course I have a long course of anti-thrombosis too, and 1 anti-imflammatory (sp?) - it was just the one box of Dafalgan as only pain killer that mademe laugh - friends and relatives always bring me paracetamol from UK - so not short of them.

That's because doctors don't dispense medication in Neuchâtel, you have to get the prescription filled at the pharmacy.
I was given nothing to take home with me but had a renewable prescription to get the medication from the pharmacy for as long as I needed it.

Of course nothing given to take home- just the prescription. Will have to check if the Dafalgan is 'repeatable' - OH went to get it from pharma- and came with just one box. Will check tomorrow.

It's normal paracetamol, so just match the dose.

Isn't it funny/sad how much they charge you here for brand-name Dafalgan when the generic is so cheap at Boots??

Now that you mention Inexium as being for tummy, I realize it's what the Americans simply call Nexium (brand name).

That's because CH has an insurance-based health care system & the price of paracetamol has been agreed with the insurance companies. There is even an extra fee for the pharmacist if it came on prescription That's being Switzerlanded

The French prescription stated Doliprane for paracetamol.

Yet there are ways around the extra fees and get better prices (insurance likes you for using those ways around as well).
Apotheke zur Rose (sorry, they seem to publish in German only).

Send in your prescription
They deliver for free
They charge the insurance directly
They give discounts (which the insurance appreciate too)
No pharmacy-charges

If you have a prescription for a year you can also call off smaller amounts every few months if you prefer. Via your internet-account/log in.

I found getting the prescription filled by Superdrug in London was always the cheapest as they do private prescriptions with no markup, so about 50% of the cost of say Boots. 6 months supply cost less than 1 month supply in CH.

I have 48 panadol (paracetamol) slow acting, 665 mg per pill. Chf 7.60
I’m sure it’s cheaper elsewhere in the world, but this doesn‘t seem terribly expensive. And, it‘s prescription, so i‘ll pay 10%.

Nexium is a newer model of Prilosec (omeprazole).

That's excellent value for CH, in UK supermarkets 16 x 500mg for £0.35. Roughly 20% of the price based on mg.

It's Ibuprofen that seems even more overpriced in both France & Switzerland.

I presented a Swiss solution.

Yes of course in England it will be cheaper - like everything is cheaper.
I doubt my insurance would pay delivery from London though. And let's face it, if I can't even get crumpets over here, I won't get the drugs in either

Re: FMF broken back in minor ski fall

I buy all of my ibuprofen in the US. I don't use it often, but it is so inexpensive that I feel compelled to buy it to have on hand in Zurich - just in case.

In Singapore, prescription meds were a racket as specialists would dispense from their office (and mark up the price accordingly - depending on the specialist in question). I couldn't believe how inexpensive my "generic" thyroid medication was in the US after I ran out accidentally (prolonged stay). Who would have thought that any prescription was cheaper in the US? Lesson learned...
