How do you keep motivated on the treadmill?

That suspended tablet is online, and I can stream shows. Behind the treadmill's console there's a CD player (you can see the right-side speaker just being the lower right side of the tablet, between a book and some CDs stacked vertically). For a short run (around 1hr or so), it's perfectly fine.

For the cold days, I have a heater than I can turn on about 1hr earlier. You can see a bit of it on the lower left corner of the pic (it's an old electric oil radiator). I bought a smart plug so that I can turn the heating on even if I'm not in the house (e.g. when I am out for groceries and I realize..."oh, I could go downstairs for a little workout"):

Re: Runner's schtick

That's a neat setup you've got there Caleb. Don't swing that kettlebell too far though!

It's a sunny day and all this talk of running got me ants in my pants, so I dug out my formula one racing shoes (Saucony Endorphin Pro) and went down to the local track to bash out a solo 5k. First flat out run since Covid struck. 22:37 was about what I expected, not bad off zero speed training and a very minimal warm-up. According to Wikipedia, someone in my age class has run 16:38 . I'm not there yet .

Is that lil Nickelback figurine on those cds?

Love your home gym! Lush! I wish I had it! Though running in the public gym daily was great for my morale. I can't wait.

Re: Runner's schtick

i built myself a really nice gym at home last year. took me about 3 months hard graft. as predicted by everyone, i've barely used it

honestly i so much prefer exercising outside. and apart from tennis, i can still run, cycle, ski now which is enough.

Didn't know you could run against the cyclists. Can you choose your own conversion factor ?

For cyclists it gets harder as you go up hills, whereas for runners it only does if you alter the incline on the treadmill. It does lead the situation where it shows a runner merrily heading up a 10% gradient at 14km/h while the cyclists are grinding up at 8km/h.

Re: Runner's schtick

Wow, gorgeous.

It is definitely better for muscle mass. I miss my sprints on the gym treadmill Gotta find somebody who'd sprint with me outside, I am not keen on sprinting on my own in public

When winter leaves..

Made me miss cycling season so much.. Cycling on quiet roads in the beautiful Jura mountains, having Alps' views in the same time, lovely...

So. The gyms reopened and I could re-start my sprints.

I started slowly and gradually, but...omgwtfbbq. I need to get some calf cooling gel. Auch.

I knew better this time, started weights with a 50% less volume and 30% less intensity than usual, only slight DOMS so far I have to admit though, it was hard to hold back... Try some foam rolling if you feel like punishing yourself

Don't you have a track nearby that you can use to do your sprints? Or you prefer the treadmill?

Legs were done last Tuesday, limping around with DOMS until about Saturday. Is it strange to think I missed the feeling?

Re: Runner's schtick

Been having pain in my hip for a little while. This morning the doc confirmed my fear: hip impingement. Will get an MRI to confirm, and inform treatment.

How are you managing sprints with mandatory masks at all times? I will not do any intensive exercise on treadmills or elipticals unless they remove that restriction. Then again... I am a "sweater"...lol!

I am not sure how. It's FFP2, as well.

I think everyone sweats, it's a healthy mechanism. You just gotta hydrate. (Ahhhh, tryin' to unsee the "be like mom and cure all by hydrating" tiktok )
