Swiss Alpine club Lausanne

Hi!
I'm an exchange student from The Netherlands who is going to live in Lausanne for half a year and a real mountain sports fan. That's why I'm curious about the Swiss alpine club lausanne.

I want to start with climbing/alpinisme/freeride and I was wondering if there are more students/younger people are member of the club?

My English is relatively good but my French isn't. Are there more English speaking members, or is it mostly French? Can anyone share his/her experience?

Thank you in advance!

Re: Swiss Alpine club Lausanne

While not a member, I did look into them not too long ago. I think you will find most of the SACs quite swiss and communication in the local language, the only exception I know is there are quite a few english speakers in the Geneva SAC. Have you looked at their website, it's also all in French, but should give you an idea. One thing I know, is that each one is a bit different in the stuff that they offer, cabanes that they manage or not, etc., so best to see if it is good fit for the type of activities you expect to get into. Some are more active in hiking vs. climbing for example. Also, in case the Lausanne SAC does not meet your expectations, look for another one that does activities where you want to go. Another alternative are the various Meetup groups dedicated to skiing, climbing, outdoors, etc.

Re: Swiss Alpine club Lausanne

For the record in Suisse Romande they are referred to as CAS, not SAC - and it is true that in this region it is primarily done in French although English speakers are both welcome and get by

It's a great way to meet new people, enjoy nature and learn techniques for climbing, hiking etc

Re: Swiss Alpine club Lausanne

I hear there is an EPFL group for that which is good. CAS is older peeps usually and not the most slots. I didn't end up getting anything from my membership.
