Swimming - where now? Help please

I have a specific need for non-load bearing exercise due to a long standing physical disability, and hitherto have dealt with this by swimming regularly in local Hallenbaden. With public pools closed indefinitely I am now facing the prospect a steady but significant decline in physical health and have been trying to find a solution. All hotels and spas here and on neighbouring countries with reasonable sized pools have closed (my first idea for a solution). I wondered if anyone here knew of a private or semi-private pool I could use, within say, 20km of Zug. I would be happy to contribute generously to a charity of the owner's choice or make direct payment to the owner, whatever is most appropriate.

A solution could be to order neoprene suit and swim in the lake all the year.

Re: Swimming - where now? Help please

I'm so sorry to read of your predicament, and swimming in lakes is out of the question now as they are too cold I'd imagine. This is one of the devastating side effects of this virus. My wife won't visit her elderly mother as the mother receives care from Italian nurses, and she does not want to risk passing this on to me or our children.

The 90+ year old mother of a friend fell down and badly hurt herself. Neither the doctor nor the ambulance would come to her.

My only suggestion is to contact your physiotherapist and see what other exercises you can do in the meantime.

I hope all goes well for you and that this dreadful virus will soon come to an end!

Best to find other exercises for the time being, you will not find one single open pool within a 500 Mile radius from here.

The rehabilitation hospital here has a pool for that reason. Now, I have no idea if it can still operate under the circumstances. However, I do recall that these medical related professions can continue under the circumstances. Best to call your local rehab hospital or dr. to see about the possibilties.

Wow, when you've been managing only with a pool, this situation must be really hard.

I've read that this home has it's own pool. Whether they'd let you use it at all, and especially now, is another matter. I doubt it, really, but I suppose it's worth asking. Even so, please consider that you yourself might be posing a risk to others, by transferring.

As an alternative, might you find some exercise programmes on youtube? There are specific ones designed for those who, for a range of reasons, need to exercise in a non-loadbearing way. I wish you well!

Re: Swimming - where now? Help please

Without wishing to be rude, do you swim well and consistently for say half an hour at a time or are you looking for gentle exercise?

The last I heard is that the swim canal in Horgen is still open, but it’s not cheap (CHF 60/half hour) and isn’t for the latter group.

This will probably be closed. Most medical centers are closed or repurposed for Corona patients.

I second the idea to call your physiotherapist. The physios have nothing to do now and normally are quite creative.

Re: Swimming - where now? Help please

There are several Stiftungs that offer residential support/rehab centres for their respective disciplines eg mental health in and around your local area. Maybe they can help & your donation would go directly to the charity. As a starting point try Albisbrunn in Hausen am Albis - they have a pool I believe:

Good luck finding a solution!

Re: Swimming - where now? Help please

I think the best course of action is calling the physiotherapist and finding exercises you can do dry until the lake water is warm enough. The neoprene suit might make that sooner.
