Skiing/Snowboarding - winter 20/21 - Lausanne

Hello all snow-loving people!

Seeing as this season was cut short how about we start thinking and planning for the next winter!?

Seems like it is a good time for it too, given that the Magic Pass is on sale for the next week. Are you planning on getting it/already bought it?

I'm looking for opinions on the value for someone who's been riding for a few years and comfortable across the mountain. I've only ridden in a few places that the pass covers and spent the rest of the time this year in Verbier.

Anything else worth considering? Verbier pass seems a bit expensive (15 days to break even) and is limited to one resort (though admittedly a nice one).

It's not at all clear what you're asking here. Whether the Magic Pass gives enough access to be worthwhile for you is something only you can have any input to. Are there other ski resorts you should consider? Well yes, of course, but I'm sure you know that.

If you have any specific questions I'm sure I'm not the only one that's skiied at a few resorts on the MagicPass list, and most of the other larger ones you don't explicitly mention, what do you want to know?

Re: Skiing/Snowboarding - winter 20/21 - Lausanne

I purchased the Magic Pass for the 19/20 season for 499 CHF, and I also purchased it for the 20/21 season, at the early-bird rate of 399 CHF.

I live in Lausanne without a car, so all of my travel to the mountains is by train.

For me, the Magic Pass allows me to not have to justify cutting out early or arriving late to the slopes. It lowers the barrier of decision making on a Saturday or Sunday morning, and I just pack my backpack and skis and head out.

As far as the selection of mountains; I think it's perfect given the cost of the pass. Yes, there isn't Verbier, but there are plenty of other smaller stations which are less crowded which offer similar and varied terrain.

I love Zinal and Grimentz because, and I frequent Leysin if I am looking to get some quick turns in on a weekend day.

Naturally, this past season was a bit disappointing at the lower elevation stations; not to mention the early closure. But I still managed to get out 10 or 11 times to cover the cost of the pass.

In conclusion, the Magic Pass gives me a piece of mind that I wouldn't normally have when justifying the trip to the mountain for the day.

Thanks, Abruch! Exactly the info I was looking for.
I don't have a car either, so accessibility by public transport is important. And I'd mainly be doing day trips, maybe Sat/Sun overnight.
Any other favourite resorts in this years' list for you? Saas-Fee, Ovronnaz?

Ace1, apologies if I wasn't clear - got a bit excited at the thought I guess.
I'm looking for input on value the Magic Pass would provide to someone who is fairly experienced and likes to explore side-terrain. Any particular favourites?

Re: Skiing/Snowboarding - winter 20/21 - Lausanne

Hello Freeride,

I really like Saas-Fee, but since most of my skiing days are day-trips, it's a bit far to travel in one day. However, if you're doing a Sat/Sun overnight, then Saas-Fee is perfect. I think we're very fortunate to have it on the Magic Pass!

I had a great time also at Anzére. I went on a Sunday after the holiday period, and I felt like I had the entire mountain to myself.

Next season, I'm looking forward to try the Val d'Herens, and ski at Evolene.

For public transport, it depends on your definition of "easy". From Lausanne to Zinal requires the train and then two buses. For me, the process is very simple and straight forward. The buses were always on-time, and the change is super straight-forward. But for some people, they would be "put-off" by the number of changes.

Thanks everyone for useful info. I was also thinking about getting the pass, last year we did few ski trips to the french part from Basel, and liked it very much.

Re: Skiing/Snowboarding - winter 20/21 - Lausanne

1 day left to buy the Magic Pass for CHF399 still deciding

Another potential option is the Portes du soleil early bird season pass, which will be CHF534, but it's limited to 5000 passes and I'm not sure how quickly it sells out. Anyone bought one last year?

@Abruch. In terms of "easy" for public transport: train>bus, fewer changes the better. I really enjoyed Verbier express - non-stop from Morges to Le Chable (90mins) and gave a discount on the lift pass too.

It will save cash, yes. It is like with the AG, looks really expensive but only to those who don't move enough to justify the cost. Plus it will make me use my old beat up freeride skis on more slopes than usually

Re: Skiing/Snowboarding - winter 20/21 - Lausanne

Seems like an awesome deal!
And cool that it's valid in summer season too, for all the hikes etc.

I'd grab it too, just shame that most of the (larger) spots under MP are quite out of my way from Basel in winter

Cool! See you on the slopes!

I just checked and they're sold out (in case someone in the future is trying to figure out how long they lasted)
