i've bought a number of kids bikes here:

https://www.islabikes.co.uk/childrens/

delivered to switzerland cheaply and quickly.

they are so much better than any other kids bikes i've ever seen.
Isla bikes are really nice - but I cant really justify spending over 1000 CHF + import duties and carriage for a bike when it's not something the kid is totally into.

Equally, I don't want to put him off cycling with a heavy, cumbersome bike with rough components.

There's not much too much difference in weight, components and so on with the bike I ordered from Bikester and a comparable Isla - apart from the Isla being well over three times the price.

Am I qualified to make that judgement? Probably, having cycled for many years in many countries in many conditions.

Buy them abroad. Bikes are ridiculously overpriced here, especially second hand ones.

Buy a bike from your local store.

https://www.naloobikes.com/bikes/cha...o-chameleon-24

These come in around 500 CHF which is a great value for a very nice and light bike. My local store were actually sold out of these, told me they are very popular but will have them again in August.

Re: Online store for kids bikes?

So my son got his bike and the first thing his siblings said was - "where's the stand? You can't have a bike without a stand!"

This got me thinking.

I've owned loads of bikes in my life and not one of them has had a stand.

What is this Swiss (and probably German too) fascination with having a stand?

If I lock my bike up - I always lock it to something, I don't need a stand. If I can't lean it up against something to which I can lock it - I don't leave it there.

If I spend another 100 CHF on a bike to get lighter components and shave 0.5Kg of the weight, I'd be pretty stupid to add that weight back on with a stand and mounting.

If I'm in the middle of nowhere, I learn my bike against a tree, a rock or just lay it down.

So why the stands?

Re: Online store for kids bikes?

Good point but I suppose I find myself a proponent of stands - they regularly come in handy

I believe that it comes down to the cult like status of Ausbildungs in this country. If some snotty-nosed teenager managed the rigorous education path of becoming a retail store salesman, specializing in bike sales, the majority of Swiss shoppers will follow their recommendations as gospel with no desire to think for themselves as to what they really need. Mr. Ochsner teaches his students well. You see the same thing in the hiking community where they look like clones of one another. You can pick out a Swiss hiker worldwide just by the way they dress. Of course Swiss consumers are extremely well kitted out but they pay for it as well.

As to the kickstand, I imagine it might come in handy if you lived in the city and you frequently encounter full bike racks. We have 11 bikes and none of them has a stand.
